I thought about getting the Nike AW3 SG LTE over my regular Apple Watch S3 LTE, but i decided against it.

The faces weren't enticing enough to go out hunting for the color/model i wanted. I like the bands, but i can purchase those separately.

Also, the faces to me are very busy and aren't great visually to me. The only one i would consider using is the full analog face below.

The NRC app gets worse and worse with every revision. The integration between the iPhone and AW (with NRC) was never that great, and seems to get flakier and flakier. Others have indicated that runs longer than 5 miles or so frequently crash. App is very slow to respond.

And to top it off, Nike decided to kill the NRC website, so you can only see your data on the iPhone.
I haven't used NRC in years so that is probably why I haven't noticed it. I wish there was a way to sync my AW data to Garmin Connect because I always thought Garmin Connect was better than health
Me too, that's why I'm curious as to what people are thinking the Nike AW does that the standard AW cannot. Perhaps I'm missing something.
My guess in marketing. I assumed the Nike+ edition had more features compared to the regular AWS3

I got one of the Nike bands when they were released separately and like it. I wear it in the summer and it is noticeably more comfortable than the regular sport band

Question. Do you notice a tan pattern after wearing the Nike bands (the circular pattern)? Just curious.

I already have a bad watch tan. I think a pattern underneath that would be silly in addition.

My arm already looks like this pic below (its an example), but i have hairy arms, so i have the benefit of it being not as noticeable.

There are ways to get your run data to Garmin Connect. Personally, I use iSmoothRun for running, which can directly export the data to Garmin Connect.

If you use the stock Workout app, you'll need to use an app to export your data. Two apps that come to mind are RunGap and HealthFit. Both of these apps have access to your run data via the Health app. Then you link the app to your Garmin account and export.

RunGap is free, but to gain the additional export features, it's $2 for a 90-day "swag bag". I'm not sure if the Garmin export requires the $2 swag bag.

HealthFit is a $4 (maybe $5) one time app fee. It has export features and I'm pretty sure it exports to Garmin.

So for a small cost, you can indeed connect your AW runs with Garmin.

I know what you're asking, but I've never had a spotty tan on my wrist. My wrist will end up looking like yours in a few months. I think the holes won't sit on the exact spot on my wrist all the time, so no chance to get a weird tan. Also, the holes are pretty deep, so you don't get too much direct sunlight right into the hole.

I haven't worn my AWS3 outside with it exposed for long enough to get a tan pattern. I wear suits for work and the only time I was outside long enough to notice was at annual training for my army reserve component and I left my charger at home

I looked at those and it looks like HealthFit might work the best. Will that data still be in the health app and will it automatically sync everything with Garmin Connect? I have friends who still use Garmin Connect and I want to keep up with them

I have the Nike S2. I love it. I specifically waited for it to come out instead of getting standard S2 just for the band.

In my mind, there's no advantage to getting a Nike over a standard AW unless you really want the watch faces. Just get whichever one is on sale and/or whichever band you like the best.

Personally, I've stopped using the Nike watch faces because it's not particularly well suited for displaying my calendar. However, I do like the way the Nike Digital face displays the Activity data with numbers rather than the small rings (as long as you put that complication in the bottom slot).

Incidentally, Nike has screwed up the NRC app so badly that I no longer use it. I just use a 3rd party running app. The watch itself is fantastic, but the app side of Nike is horrendous.

Maybe I'm dense, but what is this "nike integration" mean to you? I'm unsure as to what some folks are thinking a Nike watch can do that a standard AW can't, aside from the watch faces, included band, and siri-start.

That particular picture shows an LTE version of the NikeAW3. Perhaps that color combo is exclusive to the LTE model? I'm on a S2 Nike and I can't seem to select that color combo either.
For me it’s more of using Siri to start a run. I know the Nike app is downloadable to do similar things.

That said if I get series 4 non Nike model it’s hardly going something I miss..will still use the Nike band as it’s my favourite to use

See Here. Garmin Connect supports healthkit.
Thanks but it appears that is a 1 way sync. "Health can receive the following data from Connect (depending on what options are enabled in Health and what types of data are supported by the connected Garmin device):" I am looking for a way to sync my workouts and stats such as heart rate from my AWS3 into Garmin Connect. Ideally HealthKit would support a 2 way sync

I'll check for you. My friends and co-workers all use Garmin forerunner watches and apple watches.

I'll ask to see the data and how its read for you. That way you can make an informed decision.

If I read you correctly, this is what you're looking for.

1. Use the stock workout app to track your run.
2. Export the data of that run from your iPhone (Activity app) to your Garmin Connect account.

If this is what you want to do, then the HealthFit app can do that. However, upon reading some comments on their Facebook page, it looks like the Garmin APIs are private and while HealthFit (and RunGap) can export to Garmin, it's not a guarantee that it will always work.

If it's that important to get your run data into Garmin, it looks like you have to use a Garmin product (not sure if they have a Garmin iPhone/AW app) to guarantee it will work. But it's only a few buck for HealthFit or RunGap.

I don't believe there is a way to get your already existng Garmin data onto the iPhone's Health data (aka 2-way sync). EDIT - I read that Help Topic on Garmin's page, and it does look like the Garmin Connect Mobile app does support sharing of data back to Apple Health app. Specifically the line item of "Workouts". Not really sure about the 2-way sync.

With the Nike AW, are we stuck with only using the NRC app? In other words, if I end up disliking the NRC app and wish to uninstall it, can I use another app to start a run with Siri or even track my stats?

Yes I want to use my AWS3 to track my run then sync it from health to Garmin Connect

I will check out the HealthFit when I get home. It sounds like it will do what I want

I no longer have my Garmin Forerunner or I would use it when I run. Ideally there would be a 2 way sync between Garmin Connect and health but health only reads the data from Garmin Connect

I haven't used a Garmin since the first aw so I don't have anything recent to sync. Correct Garmin Connect will share to health but health will not share to Garmin Connect

You are not stuck with using the NRC app forever. While you cannot delete it from the Nike AW, you can hide it. I don't believe you can change the function of starting a run with Siri, so if that's important to you, you would be stuck with NRC. Perhaps Apple will put in the ability to choose which app to start a run in via Siri, but who knows if they'll ever bother with that.

As for other running apps, yes you can use any app you want. You can use the stock workout app or any of the dozens of apps out there. Personally, I use iSmoothRun. But any data that you have from the NRC app is trapped on Nike's servers forever. They killed any avenues for exporting that data. You can only view it from the iPhone's (or Android's) NRC app. Partial data will show up in the stock Activity app, but you won't get a map, shoes, elevation, splits, etc.

My opinion is to not even bother with using NRC. I recommend using the stock app as it's the most responsive and simplest. The downside is that Apple doesn't allow you to view your data anywhere but the iPhone. If you're serious about running, you may want to analyze your data and it's very difficult to do with the limited data shown in the Activity aap. You'll want to buy HealthFit to export the data to a 3rd party website or service. I upload my data to SmashRun.com on a free account. Much better visualization of the data. I also upload my data to Garmin and I continue to upload to Nike, just because I have all of my data on their server and I don't want to lose all of those stats.

Yep, I think HealthFit is the middle man that will allow you to share from the Health app to Garmin Connect.

I got the nine version for two reasons:

1) I wanted a breathable band - coming from Fitbit where my wrist used to sweat a lot and the band began to get an odor. So far this band is much better in that regard.

2) Why not? It’s the same price for more features. I have no intention of using the Nike integration but it’s essentially free so who cares.

I just saw this thread & wanted to comment on the HealthFit/ RunGap thing. I am a longtime Nike Run club user & still store my data there. ftaok got me to try ismoothrun & of course the same week I started using it, Nike broke the sync, so it no longer worked. However, about a month later, ISR posted a note in their app that you could still sync to nike by Setting up a Garmin Connect Account 7 it's been working great, although I moved back to the stock workouts app, rather than the ISR app, as starting, stopping runs was just easier on the stock app & I don't really need any of the advanced features of ISR (If you do need any of the features, it is fantastic though).

I don't hate the Nike watch app & will probably move back to it if/when i get a new watch as the app seems to work great on the Series 3 watches, but I will caution that if you choose to use nike, it is a good idea to also store your data in another source (Garmin connect & the Apple Watch health apps are two great repositories) in case nike breaks anything else, then your data isn't lost/ locked away. They have gotten rid of a lot of functionality over the past year, and this does make them less attractive than they used to be. I'm not sure that I'd recommend starting with them today, but I have data in their servers since 2006, so I'm locked in at this point.

with regards to Health Fit/ Run Gap. Both will sync to Garmin, but with Rungap, it is an easier process. Once you set up the syncing (I have it read data from the Apple Health app (where my workouts app data is stored) and have it write to Garmin Connect (and then i have Garmin Connect synced to Nike, so the data gets to nike that way). After I complete a run, I open Run gap & initiative a sync. it checks my Health app & loads the data into the Run Gap app. then it asks me if I want to share the data. I click yes & it publishes it to Garmin.

I also both HealthFit as they advertise Garmin syncing, but it's a much more convoluted process. the data gets stored to HelathFit, but then your options are to export the data, in a garmin compatible format, to iCloud or other repositories. Then you have to manually go into Garmin & export the data from there. I'm not sure why run gap can sync the data automatically, but the ability to do so really makes it so much more useful. It would be nice if it was cheaper, or if you could buy an lifetime subscription, but for my uses, it is way easier to use & well worth the $8/year.

if you are syncing to Strava (or a couple of other services I've never used), Healthfit does offer automatic syncing & it works great, even better than Rungap as it's completely automatic. I wish it would sync to Garmin the same way, but I don't think that will ever happen.

A little off topic but I have an inconsistent experience of the the nrc app automatically launching when I start a run from my iphone.

Am I doing this incorrectly?

No ... I'm of a LOT darker skin and well since last spring I have a darker skin patch where my 42mm Nike+ sits on my wrist. Go figure.

Sorry to bump the thread but just picked up an AW3 and despite having enabled Workouts to be shared with Strava nothing gets picked up.

Is Healthfit still required to sync Apple Health activities > Strava?

You could use RunGap as well. It's a free download, but the ready sharing features require the SwagBag purchase for $2/3mo.

If Strava can import TCX files, you can email it to yourself and then import into Strava with just the free app.

Thanks. Someone suggested enabling the Strava options within the Heath app on the phone would perform the sync but it hasn’t worked. Will get one of these helper apps

FYI, if you're only looking to export to Strava, I'd go with HealthFit. If you're also interested in exporting to other sources, I'd recommend RunGap.

I have both. HealthFit is a one-time purchase & it syncs automatically with Strava. I export to Garmin & it doesn't do as seamless of a job exporting there. If you want to export to Garmin, you set up the export in HealthFit, then you have to manually import the file into Garmin every time.

WithRunGap, you pay every 3 months for the exporting, and it exports the same to all services, which is somewhere in the middle of Healthfit automation-wise. It's less automated than the HF Strava sync, but moreso than the Garmin sync. You have to open the Rungap app & pull down on the screen to start the data import, and then when it is done importing, it will tell you that you have new activities & do you want to share them, then you just hit yes.

Without a helper app, Strava will only sync data into the Health App, it doesn't export out of the App (it can read Birthdate, Heart Rate, Sex, & Weight, but not activity)

Thank you very much for the explanation.

Paid for the HealthFit one and that seems to have done the trick
