Apple watch not alerting me emails or text

paired with iphone with sounds and taps ,,have everything turned on in apple watch ,,no alert tap or ping with emails or texts .i have to tap on icons to read,notifications on too .reset it turned both deVices on and off ..it worked when i hot it yesterday ,, help please

if the screen on your phone is on (making light) then your watch won't do anything.
