I have it set to unlock in settings but when I wake up the Mac I only have the option to use touchID or enter the password. I assume it needs to be docked and closed maybe for this to work?

I have the same issue. I set up my new MacBook Pro to be unlocked with my Apple Watch. But it has yet to unlock once. When waking it up from sleeping Touch ID or password are my only options.

Never have seen an error message like my watches connection is too weak or I need to unlock my watch.

My watch is on my wrist, and unlocked. yet I have not once been able to get it to unlock my MacBook Pro.

I have tried turning this option off, rebooting and then setting again to no luck.

I just discovered if you wake the Mac up it only give you the choice to unlock with pw or touchID. if you hit the cancel X at the bottom then the spacebar it will unlock with the watch most of the time. Even them sometime it fails. Sounds like a bug. I don't dock the laptop and touchid is the fastest so I can deal with it for now but eventually I would like to dock and this would be nice.

Anyone running into this issue with the new M1 Max laptops? New Series 7 was working fine with my old MBP, now 90% of the time I get "Apple Watch signal too weak to unlock this Mac." Not sure if it's a Monterey problem or a new hardware problem. Bluetooth seems to work fine with my other devices.

Yes, I'm having the same issue intermittently. Sometimes it works, sometimes it does not. Both watch and MBP (2021,16") have the latest OS. I can't find any rhyme or reason, nor a solution.
