Should I get an Apple Watch now or wait for Apple Watch 2?

  • Yes, but get the Sport now. You can always replace in a year.

Do you want an Apple Watch, or do you want to wait ? Do YOU think there will be enough changes (improvements?) to make it worth waiting ?

9 post up i mentioned i bought one

Nobody knows when the next one will be out or how much better it will be than the current version. You could be waiting a long time. Get one and enjoy it now, you'll be glad you did!

See I was originally waiting for more of a 'reason' to buy one when they first came out and was planning on waiting for a second gen but then they released the Rose Gold sport colour along with the gold and I bought one the next day. Apple seems to be focusing on the Sport Edition as it probably had/has the most sales (lets not forget each watch is EXACTLY the same inside specs, just different finishes). It wouldn't surprise me if they did release a second gen next year, but equally it wouldn't surprise me if they didn't. I feel like they need to focus on the internal OS first, then upgrade parts. The fact OS2 has been delayed shows there is perhaps more work to be done than we non beta adopters anticipated. Then again, they need to keep fresh in a market they were late to, so if they feel they're loosing sales.. they'll make a second gen. Just my two cents. :)

Can't decide whether to get a watch now or wait for the next iteration.

It's your call. I don't expect watch 2 to have a "mind blown" feature. Rumors are pointing to a facetime camera (which makes no sense to me as to why anyone would facetime with their watch when their phone is with them). Beyond that maybe a spec bump or not. Who knows. new category of device.

Thanks, I'm just envisioning WWDC 2017 "and this feature will work in any Apple Watch except Apple Watch 1".

Oh, I'm sure they will manage to shove some kind of new exclusive feature but it's a smart watch. They can't make the screen bigger (or could they? o_O)

The only new features that would cross my mind would be a facetime camera (like I mentioned), maybe a stand alone GPS module inside? (battery problem waiting to happen) or some new sensors? (not sure how many people would be getting in line or selling their apple watches to get the new one because it has a bloodpressure sensor).

I'm afraid of the first generation of any product after seeing the disaster that the original iPad was. You have the iPad 1, which can run iOS 5. But the iPad 2 can run up to iOS 9, not super smoothly, but can still run it none the less.

Yeah, I know.. Apple always does this.. That's why I went with the Apple Watch Sport this time around..

...And.. you know this is coming.

I was thinking the same thing when I bought my Watch. I didn't know what to expect from a first generation so I thought I would buy the SGS and save a little money and if I liked it and Apple released a new one shortly I would probably upgrade anyway, and if I didn't like it I wouldn't be out that much money.

Well after getting mine I liked it so well and figured it might be a while before the next generation comes out since they are still releasing this one in other countries I went back to the Apple Store and upgraded to the Space Black Stainless Steel model. I'm very happy with my decision.

This is a very personal choice and you have given no indication of your level of discretionary income, your individual use case, or any other useful information. So I'll just speak for me.

I've had one since May, and I definitely enjoy it. It's certainly not as much of a necessity as a smartphone, but knowing if I didn't already have one (or if the one I have gets lost/destroyed) I would definitely march out and get one (albeit another sport model). I've found the level of utility great, and I've enjoyed being at the "cutting edge" of the smartwatch market. I, personally, do expect the 2nd gen to come out next Spring, but I think 6-7 months of enjoying the watch is worth it. I'd put Apple Watch at a "Recommend Buy" all through the end of the year. After the new year, I would switch to a "Recommend Wait" status and only advise purchasing if you have a particularly urgent need/desire for one (or if there is a lot of smoke indicating there won't be a gen 2 until late 2016 or 2017).

I voted for buy a SS watch now. I don't think they'll update the watch on a one year rotation like many other products, but even if they did, doesn't mean that you have to get one.

I say buy now, enjoy it until the new one comes out, and if you like the new one enough, then upgrade. I've already upgraded my Sport to a SS and I now have the watch I wish I could have had in April. The SS is much more premium looking and feeling than the Sport, and this isn't something I realized until actually owning and wearing both.

I would get one now. I use my watch all day every day. I find I don't have my phone in my hand 24/7 anymore and I never miss important work information throughout the work day.

I have the sport and will most likely keep it when the new one comes out, because it is a watch. I will also pick up a SS when they come on the market for a good price as people sell them to get the Second Generation.

I'm sure the Apple Watch 2 will have some added sensors and other improvements, but I feel apple did a good job with version 1.0. They just need to finish ironing out the missing features and bugs in watchOS.

I didn't vote as the answers didn't fit my thoughts.

If you want one, buy one. The soonest a new watch will be announced looks like April next year, and the availability is likely to be June next year at the earliest. Personally I think that is only 50/50, with the alternative being that there is a further year before gen 2 is released.

What we've seen is exactly what I personally expected - a slightly increased range of cosmetic options, but no difference in the guts if the watch. That is how the Swiss watch industry has worked for decades. Gen 2 is likely to be slightly slimmer, may might have a couple of new sensors but no camera IMO. Most desirable to me would be a barometer (so the watch can detect walking up / down stairs). I'm not convinced it would have GPS at this point due to the space / power considerations.

If you want it and can afford it, I would buy one. I love mine. :)

Well... considering the fact that even the 1st gen Apple Watch isn't available yet in most of the countries, I'm not expecting Watch 2 anytime soon.

I agree with you. I use my watch so much and iPhone is second in most cases.

Go with current (1st) version until they will sell 3rd version. Then change. It is better to skip 2nd generation, than wait over 1 year without any Apple Watch.

I just got mine and love it - the new gold/navy band combo is fantastic and that's what made me pull the trigger, along with watchOS 2 being available - I expect at least another full year before we get a hardware revision - they may even take their time more and do color updates for a bit still

i bought the sport version knowing full well I'd want version 2 when it came out.... also knowing full well I couldn't wait until version 2....

I did try to convince myself at one point before the actual announcement that I didn't need version 1.... but I was up at midnight preordering and have been happily wearing it!
