Hello guys,

I have a iPhone 7 128 GB working out perfectly. I just found out my wife bought me a Apple Watch series 4 44mm for Christmas. I don’t have any smart watch as of now. However she just told me she is giving me that and she asked if I prefer a new iPhone XS instead. I give mine as a trade in for 250 and pay the rest. However I would prefer the 256 GB and that would cost her more.

I’m not sure if I keep the Watch or if I get a new iPhone. Never had one not sure how useful it really is. I think I would like and I don’t really need a new phone but maybe I should get one since mine is an old iPhone 7?

What would you guys prefer? Help me lol!!

I have the Series 4 44mm and I love my watch. I love the notifications, fitness tracking and heart rate monitoring, sleep tracking, text and phone calls and not having to carry my iPhone X on me all the time. Do you honestly think you could continue to use your 7? Do you really want a new phone? Those are some of the questions you could ask yourself to narrow down if you should keep the watch or upgrade your phone.

Exactly, as Stacey said, you have to evaluate how happy you are with your iPhone 7. For what I read on your post, it is working perfectly, so... what's the point of going for an XS? Bigger screen? Better camera (it is much better, actually)?

If I were you, I'd check the battery, and if its under 85% maybe replace it for few bucks, and keep rocking that iPhone 7 (I have an iPhone 8 and I know the 7 is a great phone as well). Battery is fine and you enjoy the perfect size and performance of your iPhone 7? Then keep the present of your wife!! It is a great present!

I don't have an Apple Watch, but I know the Series 4 is a huge step up in the Watch lineup. It is an awesome device, seriously.

I think my point is clear xD but you have to make a decision; if you think you'll enjoy much more an iPhone XS, then go for it. Otherwise, keep your iPhone 7, which happens to be an awesome smartphone, and accept your wife's present.

My iPhone performance is just fine really. The battery is right on 85% and yes down the line with a few bucks I can get a new battery.

I think I will keep the Apple Watch, I’ve always liked watches but never had a smart one. I mean... it’s hard decision hahaha

About the camera I never really cared much about the camera, If I’m going to take photos I take my DSLR and my wife does have a new iPhone XS so if I’m with her I could use hers lol.

I guess I’m answering my own post.

The 7 is a great phone and if you are happy with it keep it and take the Watch because it is really an improvement over past generations. Then again the Face ID and new features on the X’s are nice too.

If it’s an option for yourself, I’d get the watch now and upgrade phone next year instead.

The watch design will probably remain the same next year but we may see a remodelled iPhone next year rather the Xs which imo is a small bump from last years x.

Go with the watch. It’s a totally different experience. You may find that you really will appreciate what it has the offer with Health features, notifications, Apple Pay, etc. The iPhone XS is great, but you likely will be in a position to wonder what the watch would been like if you never tried it.

And I don’t think the iPhone 7 is that old, but as you said, it’s working perfectly, and as long as your fine with your iPhone the way it is, try the watch.

Given that you’re not worried about the camera, I’d definitely say go with the watch. I think 3-4 years makes sense for a phone so upgrading next year (or even the year after) would be fine. My watch is S3 (and the S4 would be better) and I wouldn’t be without it.

Also, it’s much nicer to keep the present someone’s actually chosen for you!

So I went with the Apple Watch. I loved it... it’s really cool. Still learning all the good things about it and that’s all fun.

Keep the 7 for another cycle and rock the new watch. Pound for pound it seems the watch is the bigger win; right now. Keep in mind the Xs is losing to the Xr based on bang for the buck. I believe this will drive Apple to be a bit more innovative at the top end next year. Your 7 has still got some kick in it.
