so I've heard Apple are probably announcing a new Apple Watch along with the iOS 10 conference, is that true??

If that's the case, can anyone guess how much the simplest model of Apple Watch Sport from the current generation (the one that costs 300$ now) will cost once the next gen is out? I know it's a little impatient of me and no one knows for sure, but I figured with all these analysts out there why the hell not... Besides, I need to get my affairs in order in preparation for the big day!

Your guess is as good as mine, but I wouldn't be surprised if, Apple being Apple, they start crippling the next gen base Sport models in terms of new features unrelated to tracking activities and offer a lower starting price for them (and cease production of the last gen models). There are a lot of cheapos out there who only see value in $$$ and will still buy.

If they continue to sell the first gen, then that obviously will be sold for less then what it goes for now, but that price point will be, is anyone's guess.

We don't know if Apple will do what they do with the previous gen iPhone once a new model is introduced. But if they do keep the first gen model, I would not be surprised to see a modest discount on them.

Why do people keep asking questions that nobody can answer? Let me get out my crystal ball...after several minutes of intense prognostication and deep mesmerization the crystal ball says that the discount will be exactly 18.47 percent! Provided that the new model is released on the third Friday during a full moon with Sagittarius in ascension. If not then it will be 21.42 percent.

The crystal ball never lies. Almost.

My guess is they'll discontinue the first gen and sell the second gen for the same price. You know, pretty much like they've done FOR EVERY OTHER PRODUCT.

There have been exceptions though. They discontinued the iPhone 5 after just one year (as the iPhone 5c took its place). If they introduce a dumbed-down base AW2 for cheaper, that might take the place of AW1 and hence it'd be discontinued. Right now, there's nothing to differentiate the base Sport and SS models in terms of functions.

And I hope it stays that way. Which makes more sense: adding GPS and phone-free data reception to the lightweight Sport for people who want to jog and bike without carrying their phones, or adding those abilities to the heavier SS model?

(disregarding how the 42mm SS is more comfortable on my wrist than my GPS-equipped Garmin ever was)

I don't think it'd be a good idea to complicate the platform for developers who are still wary, or confused, about what to write for the AW.
