Interesting observation - I BELIEVE that is an Apple Watch 3 puck on the left, and the one on the right is the Apple Watch puck that came with my AW6.

Heh cool.

Comparing the Series 5 adapter (which I presume is the same as the Series 6) to my Series 0 adapter, the S5 one is thinner and it has a much, much shorter cable.

Yes my S6 will not sit on the old puck properly causing it to tilt. Does not affect charging but a hidden change Apple has not been upfront about.

How long was the cable that came with your S0 puck?

Since S2, the cables I've had were all 1m long -- except for the 0.3m cable I purchased for my travel kit.

I think this size change dates from the introduction of the series 4, meaning the charging puck of series 4, 5 and 6 is the same size (smaller and with different grade of concavity to the series 3 and previous).

See, I always wondered if I gave away my AW5 puck when I donated my AW3 to family (when I got my AW5). I always thought that was the case - which is why I assumed it was an AW3 puck lol. (I had it plugged in so, I didn't swap the cables).

How interesting.

I'll go for a jog (93F outside :( ) and then test the two with a Kill-A-Watt - but I imagine both will be similar. Will report back in an hour or so.

The charging puck of my S6 is thinner than the puck of the S4 (both the stainless steel versions).

Wondering whether the new S6 puck is required for S6 fast charging or whether I could also buy an “older” 3rd-party or older-gen Apple charger for traveling.

I have my S5 puck still in the box and i am using my S0 old puck for charging everyday. I hope i am not doing anything wrong and damaging the battery...

Why not test with the S4 puck you have on hand?

The so-called "fast charging" is I think a bit of an overly generous term for Apple's claimed 20% faster charging.

Per another poster's measurement, the S6 with S6 charger maxes at 3 watts.

Thus an older puck would have to be unable to provide more than 2.5W.

Just my opinion, but I think that's an improbable limitation.

Yet easy enough to test with your S4 puck.

I didn't realize there was faster charging. There's not much info about it but I found this

"Battery life is the same, quoted by Apple at 18 hours.

However, not mentioned at the event, but snuck into the press materials, was faster charging.

The Apple Watch will now charge in 1.5 hours. It's perhaps not quite as potent as some fast charging we've seen, but means you can recover a lot of battery life after waking up and before leaving the house."
