They didn't remove it from any watch that was already sold, most likely an issue with your watch.

Thanks for your help. I thought it was something strange with the app Heartwatch :)

Hi All

I turned off automatic updates to my Apple Watch to prevent the blood oxygen sensor being deactivated. I therefore remain on WatchOS 10.2.

Is anyone able to confirm whether the blood oxygen sensor has been reactivated on the latest WatchOS 10.6 (or upcoming 11)? Thanks!

I believe that the issue between Apple and Massimo, has yet to be settled. I believe that once it’s settled it will be reactivated via an update, my Hermes series 9 purchased from Apple in May 2024 has the sensor but shows deactivated via firmware.

If you have an iWatch, you bought a Chinese knockoff, so you don't need to worry. As for the Apple Watch, we don't know what will happen, but I doubt Apple will be forced to turn it off on watches already sold.

Everything written in the first post still applies. The sensor is present in the watch but disabled by software, and won't be re-enabled until either Apple works out a deal with Masimo, or when the patents expire in 2028.
Or the court cases end in Apple winning.
