hey all! My Space black series 2 watch display popped off about a week ago. Luckily I had a month left on my AppleCare+ plan. Took it in and the rep shipped it off to the depot. Today my new watch arrived as I opened it I noticed a red dot on the Digital Crown. Low and behold I got upgraded to a series 3! Super stoked. This thing is FAST but the watch seems abit “thicker” than my series 2. Any ideals if the dimensions changed on the series 3? Thanks again and oh I’m grateful for the upgrade but don’t like this thicker feel to the watch.

As far as I can discover, the series 2 and series 3 are reported as the same dimensions, about 0.45 inch thick,
Series 0 and 1 were slightly thinner at about 0.41 inch thick.
The current series 4 is somewhere in between at about 0.42 inch thick.
So, I think there would be no distinguishable difference between a Series 2 and a Series 3!

recall that the original watch is called 1st generation, but actually Series 0.
2nd release is Series 1, 3rd release is Series 2, on to current, which I call release 5, but Apple calls Series 4.
You know what you had, but are you sure that you had a Series 2, or did you have the second release (which is actually the Series 1). That change would likely be noticeable, 0.7 mm thicker from the Series 1 to Series 3.

Yes this is true. The series 3 cellular version is noted to be thicker than gps/series 2 versions.
I think I read that it was due to the cellular chip or some sort.
Congrats on the free upgrade tho.
This is why apple service is Top Notch!!

If I were you I would ignore that slight increase of thickness and take this free upgrade (also cellular!).
I don’t have series 2, my first one is series 3 cellular. So I can’t tell for sure.

Yup super stoked on the upgrade but I honestly wish the stainless models came without cellular. A feature that is forced on us and most users don’t even need. My phone is almost always on me or in the proximity.

I went from an S0 to an S3 and the specs say they're the same I believe, but I also found it to be slightly thicker.

While the specs list them as the same thickness, it was noted during the keynote that there was a slight increase in the protrusion of the heart rate sensor. Apple described it as about "two sheets of paper". I am not sure if they count the heart rate sensor in the device thickness (which would not be entirely unique - the iPhone's stated thickness does not include the protruding camera lens). Either way, the difference does make the Series 3 feel a bit different on the wrist.
