I went to the apple store to purchase a new band today. While waiting, I saw employees bring out a total of 7 apple watches for customers to purchase during that period (all but one were sport models). I was only in the store for 10 minutes max so I was blown away to see that many apple watches being sold at once.

Same here. The UK stores have just got stock, and during my 'try on' appointment and subsequent personal setup yesterday, total time in the store about 30 minutes, I saw over twenty watches being sold. One lady bought four, one each for her husband and herself, and one each for the kids.

I was surprised as my own is still the only one I have seen in the wild!

Where are these people going? I've seen a handful of others wearing them around London...

While I am seeing more and more of them in the wild, I have asked a lot of those people about them. They are mostly people who ordered them a month or so ago and are just now getting them, or have only gotten them in the past couple weeks. So while we are seeing them more, I am not sure it is because Apple is selling a lot more, I think a lot of it is just that people are finally getting their orders.

Until a week ago everyone I spoke to about the watch was very negative/critical. All of a sudden, since getting mine, everyone seems really interested and several people are getting them.

I was initially skeptical about the watch becoming more than an Apple TV sized hobby. Now I am not so sure!

Everyone else I know, even the Apple addicts and tech geeks, are curious about my watch. But not a single person has an AW or an interest in getting one. I am an island. And I am in the technology industry. Nearly all of these people have a Fitbit of some sort.

I have only seen three in the wild, at a distance.

I'm an Apple pimp at work, the other day, 2 different people came into my work area and shoved their Apple Watches in my face (I mean, quite literally in my face) and thanked me for letting them try mine out. Co-worker waited till they left both times and just laughed at me...

I think I really blew away one of my doctors, had a black stainless steel HOCO band I was going to use till I decided to keep the SS model, and sold the SG Sport instead, just gave the band to him...

"I'm just a gigolo....."

I've never seen iWatch in the wild. Several A-stores I visited just to see what's going on didn't have a single person around demo/try on tables. Almost nobody around iPhone & MacBook tables, either. But the Genius area was always busy...

I am still hardly seeing any in the wild, which surprises me. But my wife, who was initially skeptical that it was worth the money, finally let me buy her one (38mm Silver Sport WSB), and after a few weeks of using it, just dropped another $150 today to get a Milanese Loop for it. It looks sharp!

The watch is the first thing she puts on in the morning and the last thing she takes off. She uses the health functions and doesn't want to miss any counted steps.

So the watch does seem to have a way of winning people over.

I've been seeing more and more recently too around the LA area. Almost seeing at least one per day now, depending on whether I go to a place with crowds. In fact, just saw a guy with the SS link today (first time seeing that one in person, and it looked great).

I'm wondering if some of it is dependent on how many stores are near your location? I for one wasn't going to buy the watch sight unseen, so I waited for it to become easier to buy in store and try them on. I am in southeast Michigan, in which we have a plethora of Apple stores (surprisingly). I've seen a few in the wild, my wife and I have one, and my wife works at a hospital where quite a few of her co-residents have them as well.

As they become easier to purchase we should continue seeing more and more.

Could be. I live in a relatively conspicuous consumption area, and I have 3 Apple Stores within 10 miles of my home and office. I have 5 Apple Stores within 30 miles of my home & office. I have seen 3 in the wild.

I was in Washington DC all last week and went everywhere and did not see a one other than mine and my wife's, and I was looking too. So far, I have seen 3 total, all people I know. None outside of that, other than Apple employees in the Apple Store that is.

So here is an interesting data point for some extrapolation... Bloomberg just published an article that says Fitbit is outselling the Apple Watch. It says that Fitbit sold 10.9 million devices in 2014 and that while its sales dipped in anticipation of the AW release, they have picked back up. It also says that Fitbit maintained sales levels after the Christmas rush better than the other competitors in that market space.

So... if Fitbit sold 10.9M units last year, and it held after the holiday, they are probably on track to grow a little from 2014. And, if Fitbit is outselling Apple currently, then Apple is potentially on track to sell fewer units in 2015. Therefore, Apply might barely exceed 10M in sales, if they are even able to hit that mark.

It looks like Apple has crushed the other smart watch competitors in total sales. But they are not tracking against fitness wearables in volume.

I saw a couple at the Santa Clara shows last weekend. I wasn't really looking for them though.
