A third-generation Apple Watch SE will be released later this year, and it will have a "new look" of some kind, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.

In his Power On newsletter today, Gurman mentioned the redesigned Apple Watch SE as one of many new products that Apple plans to launch in 2025, but he did not share any specific design details at this particular time.

In September, Gurman said the next Apple Watch SE could have a plastic casing, like the colorful iPhone 5c from a decade ago. At the time, he said Apple had faced some "cost and quality challenges" with shifting the casing from aluminum to plastic, but he believed the project was still moving forward. He did not mention plastic today.

An affordable Apple Watch SE with a colorful plastic design could be appealing to parents who are looking to purchase an Apple Watch for a child.

The current Apple Watch SE was released in September 2022. In the U.S., it starts at $249.

In addition to the design changes, the next Apple Watch SE is likely to offer a new chip, for faster performance compared to the current model.

You can expect the Apple Watch SE 3 to launch in September.

Probably plastic with multiple colour options. Should be having same price, with maybe a S10 chip, if it is launching along with Series 11 and Watch Ultra 3. If launch is earlier than that, then it will probably have a S9 chip.

My Apple Watch SE 1st gen was dropped by Apple. I almost bought the 2nd gen but I think it's smarter to wait for the 3rd gen?

Probably will use the form of the 9 series to differentiate it from the 10 and what 11 will look like. Yes, 9 and 10 have a different design, even if not so noticeable at first.

A proper “proper” sports watch would be nice. Yeah the Ultra is cool, but there’s no real Polar/Garmin type style. They should go round also for this.

And their next big thing will be an Apple/healthy watch for your 4 footed pet, lol.

I think it is and then you can always decide if the SE 3 is a big update to the SE 2 or not.

I already know the answer to that 🤭

The SE 2 will be sold cheaper when the SE 3 comes out and that will be the win for you.

I feel like we’re always hearing about revamped Apple watches that really never materialize … or at least the revamping is really never that much of anything
“new look” probably means a set of brandnew colored watchbands for only $ 49 for the recycled plastic one and $ 99 for the plastic one with a magnetic closure 🤑

Watch SE 3 will sell for the same $249-$299 which is almost half of Series 10/11 and Ultra 2/3 Watches, so expecting anything new for it, besides a "new" SiP, is futile.

I see Watch SE 3 might get new finishes, maybe minor tweaks to its dimensions, and this year's "new" SiP 11 for Watch Series 11(which is really just the Series 10 and Series 9 SiP with a new name and one less software-based feature blocked).

But, like every other SE, there will be an omission of most of the high-end sensors. And several of the internals will belong to older Watches and offer less features, lower specs, etc.

The only way Apple strays from the usual Watch line-up formula is if Series 11 or Ultra 3 get on-device Apple Intelligence features.

But with no leaks about AI coming to Watch, I don't see that happening in 2025.

If plastic then a hard NO for me. The plastic will scuff and dent way too easily and will not look good in no time. A complete waste. If they are targeting children that's even worse. Kids will destroy a plastic case in a day.

Bad move Apple.

But it will probably be $9,99 cheaper than the aluminum version 😜
