After spending a small fortune on an Apple Watch, the customers left only to realize that they have to pay another $20 to get an adapter so they can charge it. this made for some really sad Christmas mornings but it makes me incredibly disappointed in Apple because they showed how greedy they are and how little they care for the customer ????????

Return it, that‘ll teach them ;-)

It‘s not really breaking news though, it‘s for quite some now that no adapter is included and one of the reasons might be greed… but judging from my situation and practically everyone I know, there are plenty of adapters lying around in drawers that can be used.

But most of those adapters lying around are USB-A. The newer Apple watches use USB-C.

USB-C isn’t all that new either. Sure there most probably are more -A adapters collecting dust, but even if no -C adapter is available, they’re not overly expensive if one is needed.

don't ever buy a new iPhone, you will be just as disappointed.
This isn't something new, Apple has been doing this for a couple years, and they are upfront about it but I guess you did not look at the "What's in the box" section?
You joined today, apparently to rant ;(

Did Apple ever include free USB-C adapters in the box? The switch to USB-C happened around the same time as when Apple stopped including adapters, so I can't remember which happened first.

In any case, I think there should be a big sign on the outside of the box saying "adapter not included" so people know to buy an adapter if they don't have one lying around. That way they could at least avoid an unpleasant Christmas morning surprise, even if they have to pay extra for the adapter.

Perhaps you would enjoy a HomePod mini for a Happy New Year? The  20W (USB-C) power adapter is included in the box. ?

Merry Christmas! ?
Best, KM

I sympathize with the OP, Carmanje!

When Apple made a big-to-do a couple of years ago about being ecologically conscious and dropping the included power adapter, they specifically emphasized that it was because most people supposedly already had lots of power adapters laying around!

They meant, of course, USB-A power adapters, just as Night Spring mentioned.

Plus, unless you are into following Apple, visiting MacRumors, and poring over tech news, none of that would have been on a typical consumer’s radar screen.

Until this past month, they did NOT even explain on their product pages, OR under What's Included in the Box, that customers needed to buy or already own a separate USB-C power adapter. They put it in fine print, too, which is not consumer friendly, either.

As a prospective buyer. I found the entire situation confusing and, I have no doubt, that many were surprised Christmas Day to discover they needed to buy an adapter! It'd be like selling a car without a key to the gas tank — or a Mac without a power adapter.

Also, as I recall, they changed the charger included with the Watch SE last year from a USB-A to a USB-C one. That, too, was NOT made clear. It also undermines their point that many or most already had a bunch of power adapters laying around. USB-adapters?! No, many of us don't!

They did on the 11 Pro series.

Been happening for some time now. You can buy a USB-c adapter for the Apple Watch. It also fast charges iPhones, too. If you have a Mac charger that’s not MagSafe that works too.
