I do not mind plastic, as long as prices are kept low. Not everyone wants, needs or can afford a $1000 phone. I loved my white polycarbonate MacBook, back in the day. I wish they would release a new one.

Tim aiming to get the next generation of kids into the walled garden.

Those teens given the original 5Cs… wonder how many still use iPhone?

I bet they have data that shows it’s worth another C version to spur another decade of new, loyal users.

This would be sweet. Loved the design of 5C. Severely underrated. And a cheaper, mass market Apple Watch for a younger market has the potential to sell a bucketload.

Also side note... dont dip in the comments here often. Holy **** why are most of you all so negative and bitter?

This is a terrible idea - the 5C was prone to screen separation and was a poor piece of hardware, don't know why Apple would want to bring it back!

I really miss plastic (whatever kind) phones. Usual pros (not always):
  • No or less of a need for a case (much lower risk of shattering, although there's risk of cracks)
  • Grippier
  • Lighter
  • More colour or sometimes even motif options (usually, as it is easier to do)
  • Cheaper (to make at least 😂)
  • No antenna placement issues, same with wireless charging
  • Doesn't feel so hot or cold
I'm always amused when I read about 'premium materials'. Titanium? Possibly. 'Glass', aluminium and stainless steel?
Plastic has a lot of advantages but I’m sure most people would agree it feels cheaper than glass and metal. But I think the main advantages of aluminum is heat dissipation and recyclability.

Give that 95% (I'm guessing, could be higher!) only see the back of their iPhone for 10-15 minutes during the phone's life (i.e. out-of-the-box, put case on, use and then finally remove case when recycled) I'd be happy if a plastic back could reduce the price by $400-500.

Don't think Apple will reduce the price much even if it is made from plastic.

How expensive can aluminum be? It's used in soda cans.

I know they say it's aerospace grade, but that means a bit less these days with planes disintegrating mid-flight.
haha, so true!
Until the future CEO comes in and wants to cut hardware development costs and double services revenue.

There is little reason to think the next CEO will be more Jobs and less Cook. Careful what you wish for..
Exactly, the next CEO might put everything on subscription! I will be nervous when they decide to to change Tim Apple.

I don't think so.

An all-plastic iPhone that doesn't look like any mid-tier from the past isn't an iPhone anymore.

The buyer wants others to know they own an iPhone. That's a big selling point for many.

5c failed because of this. And would have failed even if it had great flagship specs as it doesn't look premium enough to be an iPhone and doesn't resemble any iPhone that was once a flagship or mid-tier.

All-plastic smartphone means "not an iPhone". Bad idea.
But the 5C was nice and light. :)

I long for the day where Apple starts to think about ergonomics again. This trend on beefing up the phones to bigger screens, heavier weight and just overall uncomfortable experience is tiring. I use the 13 mini for its ergonomics, and I know it didn't do well compared to other models, however, nothing stops Apple from creating something at least the size of iPhone X/XS if they do not want to make a mini again. They've done a relatively good job with weight on iPhone 15 Pro and overall ergonomics felt like they were onto something. Now with the Pro line getting bigger and heavier AGAIN, it's just a never-ending cycle of bigger and heavier phones. It's not that my hands are small, or I cannot lift heavy things, no, it's just there is a place and use for an iPad, a Mac and an iPhone. And I prefer my phone to be MOBILE and easy for one-handed use. It's frustrating and I am sure I am not the only one who feels this way.
