Will the Series 1 and 2 watches see a bit of support from now until two years from now? Or will they be phased out quick? I want an AW for BF, but gotta see which one has longevity outside of the 3.

I believe the Series 1/2 will easily see two more years of WatchOS support. They both share the same processor. The first generation Apple Watch for somewhat of a metric, at least has four year total of WatchOS support.

So I should go series 1 since processors are the same and I just need basic stuff like heart rate checking, notifications, answering calls, changing music, etc?

Series 1 is more than enough for those needs. It's just as fast as Series 2. It just lacks 50 meter water resistance, brighter dislay, and GPS.

And there will be a lot of Black Friday sales approaching for Series 1 near $179.00.

Now to decide if I need 38mm or 42mm. 38mm fits when I tried the Series 3, but it didn't feel as comfortable as 42mm, but at the same time, rather save the $50 difference as well.

I prefer the 42 MM. The larger display is nice for viewing and the battery life appears to be somewhat stronger, even though both the 38/42 are both rated at 18 hours.

I think the majority of men wear the 42mm.

I’ve small wrists and the 42mm looks normal on my wrist. My wife’s 38mm looks quite petite.

I’d only go with 38mm if he’s already expressed an interest in the smaller size.
