My S3 Watch finally refused to boot.
But it was much better than my S5 that really struggled after WatchOS9 was installed. Battery life sucked after that.
And no update ever fixed it.

It still boots but has a short useful working period.
S10 is better in all ways and seems to get almost 2 days of use between charges for me.

It’s been a long time since I’ve seen a Series One. And wow, it looks dated! It reminds me of the Chinese replicas that are usually sold at a much lower price!

Speaking of which, I might get a Xiaomi Smart Band 10. Honestly I don’t need much more than a clock, a heartbeat and blood oxygen monitor, and smartphone notifications on my wrist, in a smaller, more compact and lightweight device that has actually much longer battery life. An Apple Watch is much better and you can install apps, yes but… I just don’t need that.

Gee what do you do to them? I assume you just want the new one?

I’ve only had S0 and S5. Still wearing the S5.
I smashed my S0 (all) a few months after AC ran out (there was no extension possible back then) and replaced it with the S3 (all), then 6 or 8 months later upgraded to the S4 SBSS which had been my plan all along.
Then got S7 Ti In part I was tired of not having AOD) and I still have that today and use for sleep tracking every other day.
U1 was a game changer and besides readability (flat screen) I wanted the water resistance.
I upgraded to U2 1 year later as I deemed the trade-in value reasonable (for the first time) and in hindsight quite better battery performance and SiP performance made it worth it to me.
So really, the U2 was the only watch that "I just wanted the new one"

Fair. It’s always interesting to see different people’s device changes.

My series 0 SS was preordered and I used it until the battery wouldn’t take a charge sometimes.

Got a S5 sport model cause I didn’t care for looks. It’s beat up now. Covered in scratches and the battery health is 73% BUT I still get a day of charge from about 6am to 6pm so I’ll keep it going until it dies.

The obsolescence of Apple’s products can be kinda crazy. Their hardware is either very well supported for an extended period of time (iPhone/iOS) or they obsolete it very quickly. There is no in between.

I used my launch Apple Watch Series 0 for years, daily. You know what I did with it? Tell the time and use Apple Pay. I only upgraded to the series 7 when it came out, and only because my Series 0 was falling apart at that point. You know what I do with it? Tell the time and use Apple Pay. It is not functionally any better than the series 0.
That said, Apple did deliberately block me from using certain credit cards on the series 0 because it was an older device. Worked fine on the series 7. A credit card number should not be hardware locked. that left a very sour taste in my mouth.

When you buy A WATCH it should function until it can’t function anymore. And if it’s built decently well enough there is no reason it should stop functioning.

and I will consider getting an Ultra 3 if:
. it has blood oxygen
. it has a new health sensor, eg blood pressure
. it tis offered in SB again

but, I will wait til I can see the actual specs and then make my decision.

Hope the people who paid 10K for the edition enjoys their obsolence
I have a feeling that if you could afford to spend 10k+ on the Edition Watch you don't really give a **** about it being obsolete

My S5 is still working great! I might upgrade by S15 unless there is a great feature that changes my mind.

Good to know about the classification. Apple Watches have improved so much since their early models.

That case shape now looks old, but that Sport band is a timeless design, which is a good thing because the fluoroelastomer they're made from means they're going to outlast us all.

I wonder if anyone bought an original apple watch and left it in its factory seal with the hopes of auctioning it off as a collector's item for a huge profit in the future. If so, it will probably be another 10 years or so before the gamble pays off? 🤷‍♂️

What about that gold one? The original Apple Watch. Can the gold be salvage and resold to reclaim the loss?
The gold can definitely be extracted and recovered. It is an expensive process, but still worthwhile especially since gold's value has gone up so much in the last decade. But you wouldn't recover anywhere near the initial cost of the device.

That shows that they are not serious watches. A serious watch works 100 years or more. Digital watches need a battery change after a few decades, but at least that is possible.

When I sent my otherwise great condition AW S7 in to get its worn out battery replaced, Apple just sent back a complete replacement of the same model. I get the sense that they don't take repair too seriously for watches.

I wore my S1 sometimes up until last year.

It worked totally fine !

As a few others have said, it felt very cheap compared to the build quality of the AW nowadays.

But then so does the iPhone. I’m not sure that my iPhone 3G would compare favourably to the iPhones of today.

While the Apple Watch has been a game changer for many of us devoted wearers, the rest of the technology loving community sees no value in the device. Mac and iPhone are the only living icons and might be the last.
