Is it possible to turn off sounds and get alerted by a vibration to any installed app that's capable of alerts on the Apple Watch or will it only alert you of certain ones? If possible can you please tell me.

Yes. Swipe up. Touch the little bell icon with the bend sinister to turn on silent mode.

by the bend sinister , do you mean the line through the bell? And will it notify me of third party apps as well, please?

Yes. Mute means mute. You will only receive Taptic feedback. This is available on all Apple watches by the way,,,not just series 1 🙄

Yes, "bend sinister" is the name of a slash that runs from the upper right to lower left.

I only use my watch in silent mode, and I get all notifications through the Taptic Engine.
