I've been trading in my watch every two years to upgrade to the latest model, so the battery never degrades to the point where it needs to be replaced, but I'm not throwing away the old one, and I'm keeping the cost down on buying the new one. For me, this has been the best solution.
I can’t afford to do this.

I dropped it accidentally this morning ? Not the first time this happened, and since my wooden floors are fairly soft nothing happened until now. I knew immediately something was horrible had happened when it hit the floor because the sound it made was different.

It does still turn but the display doesn't respond to input anymore. I am going to unpair it from my phone and start looking for a new Watch.
Ouch, sorry about that! Good luck finding a new watch.

I know everyone's circumstances are different. I was responding to a post that said they think it's wasteful to upgrade every year/every other year because the old watch gets thrown away, by saying I don't throw away my old watch when upgrading. But that post appears to have been deleted.

My series 2 was sluggish so I upgraded to the 4. I have no reason to upgrade past the 4 at this time.

Thank you. I ended up purchasing a 44mm SE at Target for $259.99 and am going to get the montly AppleCare+ plan for it as well. That way my clumsiness will at least be covered

Thanks again for your help and advice.

For 259$ I would not get apple care+, just not worth it. If you ever need to replace it again it's only 259$...

For me anything under 1000$ it's not worth it.

Agreed, a repair is already half the value of the watch. However, on my S4, I tried using a screen protector but it was not a viable purchase.
