planets and years after competitors. aw is not more than a gadget. good enough for fitness stuff. but when it becomes to sports look at others.

Great news! The added integration of snow sport tracking into the activity app is a welcome addition.

Ski Tracks is great. Set it and forget it. Love getting a visual read out of where all my secret pow-pow stashes are at the end of the day.

My only my concern now is security. I don’t want any poachers and poseurs getting access.

So for those of us without Series 3 watches, is there any indication that the tracking could use the phone's altimeter (I kind of assume it has one but now I'm not sure) instead?

Yeah, most iPhones have altimeters. And ski jackets have 278 pockets, for carrying phones. If we can't sync older Watches with those, this update is just a ploy to buy a new Watch.

Just more convenience in technology ...

I bet before these smart watches came along people didn't care that much about how ...... But now, with these tracking app, its like a galaxy was created over night.

ooh and two days before my first skiing trip in years... too bad mine's a Series 0.

Can the watch track skipping / rope jumping activity?
It doesn't have a dedicated workout for it but you can do an "Other" workout and then define it as "Skipping Rope" at the end, which I think means it just uses the general "Other" algorithm for calculating calories etc but lets you differentiate between skipping and other workouts for your own records.
[doublepost=1519942227][/doublepost]Thinking about it, has anyone here been skiing with their watch and kept it in workout mode for the entire day (or at least when you're not on a lift)?

I think mine would be dead before lunchtime.

I have the original Apple Watch and use it more than my iPhone, although I wish that I could use Apple Pay on the watch without having to punch in a password on the tiny screen.
However, this snowboarding feature would've been useful last weekend while snowboarding in Taos, NM.

You have to put it in every time? Which bank makes you do that? I just double tap the side button on mine and it's ready.
This is the pop-up I get when I try to add a card from my Wallet to my Apple Watch.

So which of these does everyone like the best? I installed them all a few weeks ago actually, and think Slopes looks like the best, but then the weather got all warm and I haven't been able to test any out. What's the consensus here?

The intersection of people who ski and want to quantify their life seems like it must be extraordinarily miniscule.

Maybe about the same as the number who used the Ski Weather Report widget in Dashboard.

Maybe, but I'm in that group so I'm happy!

Leaving GPS on for an entire day of skiing would kill the battery. Altimeter is a much more efficient way of determining your altitude.

I know at least Slopes used the iPhone's sensors.

Ah I think I see the issue - you don't have a passcode set up on your watch at all? Meaning if anyone picked up your watch they could use all its functions? That's a prerequisite for Apply Pay for security reasons, but having it on doesn't mean that you have to type in a code every single time you use it - after putting it on and typing in the code it stays "unlocked" until you take it off (it knows when it's being worn via wrist detection) - so it will automatically lock itself if someone steals your watch, for example. I only type in the code once per day, first thing in the morning, and can use all functions (including Apple Pay) throughout the day. You can even get around having to type in the passcode on the little screen by unlocking your phone while the passcode entry screen is open on the watch - the watch knows you've authenticated your phone nearby and unlocks automatically. Try it out!
