Hello everyone ,

I will have a question I have an Apple Watch Series 4 GPS + Cellular Steel Black Sport Black 44mm paired with an iPhone X! and during free walk or bike ride I have not every time the altitude difference.

Apple Watch Series 4 single leveled OK (and well measure)

Apple Watch Series 4 and iPhone X connected to watch no elevation info

Apple Watch Series 4 and iPhone X connected and iPhone option> Setting> Privacy> Motion and Fitness> Fitness Tracking is turned on, elevation information show.

I therefore summarize if I want to go out walking or cycling with the watch and the phone to have the information of altitude difference I am obliged to activate the option iPhone> Setting> Privacy> Motion and Fitness> Fitness Tracking! but then it is the iPhone that gives the information of elevation and for me no interest in an Apple Watch Series 4.

Do you find this situation normal?

Thank you, :)

Ensure that Fitness Tracking is switched on (via the Watch app on the iPhone). This activates the barometer on the Watch which is used to measure elevation change, steps, pressure etc.

it's activated, and when I do not take my iPhone with me! and no problem, I have altitude data

Maybe if fitness tracking is activated on both devices it will use the sensor in the iPhone to save battery life on the watch?

Try disabling the Bluetooth connection between the watch and phone which may force the watch to use its own sensor.

I just disconnected the Bluetooth connection! and indeed the watch cuts its pairing with the iPhone, tomorrow morning I will go around the neighborhood and see if it works, and I will try with follow-up form of the iPhone disabled in this condition

If I, but the Apple Watch in airplane mode, I cut that connection with the iPhone, but I also cut the GPS of the watch? thank you

Conclusion in the three tries the altitude difference is the same, some difference in distance, but minimal, so not serious
in your opinion when sporting release it is the best solution to cut the Bluetooth of the iPhone X or put the watch in airplane mode, but in this case the GPS of the watch is not disabled ???? since I have a card on the exercise, I would say no, but I'm not sure

but I find that at the price or cost the Apple watch series 4, that there is no way to used it is sensor when connected normally to the iPhone is not logical and no response from the Apple's support
thank you
