So I have been experiencing this issue for at least 4-5 months. Numerous calls to Apple Support, unpaired the watch, ran diagnostics. Sent the watch in for repair twice, only for it to be looked at for an hour and sent right back to me. I finally am on the phone with a senior technician who stated that Apple is not aware of any on going issues with the Series 5, when I told her that I had seen numerous reports of the same issue online.

That fixed it for me after sending back 2 watches. Also watchOS7 seems to track the actual battery meter more accurately.

I had this issue, too. I was sent a new watch in 2 business days and was told this occurrence would not count as an incident for AppleCare+.

Same for me. Both of mine happened within 30 days of getting my new watch. My 3rd series 5 watch was at 100% when I woke up in the morning. I knew that couldn't be right and I thought here we go again. I turned it off for about 15 minutes and when I turned it back on the battery said 66%. I charged back up and it has been normal ever since. That was over 2 weeks ago. WatchOS 7 seems to have a more accurate battery meter but maybe I'm just paying closer attention...

Apple told me that I likely had a bad battery. I had the same exact issue as you :(

Glad it's fixed now!🤞

I must have talked to 20 different Apple support people of various levels and they all claimed to have never heard of this issue which is absolutely crazy. Finally the last guy almost admitted there was an issue and sent me another without using my Apple Care. He said that it was a bad batch of batteries since both of mine were purchased at the same Best Buy within 60 days.
