Could've been. I was set on the SBSS and went right to that and got the 20th (ordered on the 11th). There were definitely some that had dates slip immediately though.
I ordered SS AW5 44mm a few days ago. Store pickup. I will pick both the watch and my Pro Max on Friday.
I chose the slate band but may change to black when I get to the store.

I customized my titanium to the midnight blue / black sports loop color and it remained Sept 20th delivery. I placed my order at about 3pm US Eastern on the 10th.
Currently showing Preparing to Ship and claims Sept 20 delivery. (US)

I gotta know, is the Titanium Black the same black as the Nike+ S4 (it’s more Space Grey as in iPhone 8 not the matte black of the iPhone 7)
It’s now in Louiseville! Normally it takes only a day or two for delivery from Louiseville to Toronto! I have a feeling that Apple will let the Apple Watch be delivered before Friday

Apple typically tells shipping carriers to hold until release day. It will sit at your local hub until it’s out for delivery on Friday.
Meh, there have been instances where they let it slip early.
As someone who has always pre-ordered iDevices for delivery in Toronto, I have never had any one of them reach Louiseville before the Wednesday of the week of the release.
Something I found interesting on Apple.com is that the Apple Watch says "Order" but the iPhone says "Pre-Order"...

Agreed. Very rare instances unless you know someone in the hub, you won’t get it. They lock them up until release day. I’ve always preordered my Apple devices and they will always sit in my local hub at least 2 days before they get released.
I pre-ordered an Apple Watch Series 5 on September 10th. The status of my order is "Preparing to Ship". I tracked the shipment via "Track by Reference Number" on the UPS website using the order number minus the last two digits. However, the resulting tracking details are for delivery to another city and state. The Shipment Details include several Reference Numbers but my phone number is not among them. Moreover, using my phone number in "Track by Reference Number" results only in the tracking details for the shipment of my iPhone 11 Pro Max. I will call Apple Customer Service later, but any thoughts on this puzzling situation would be appreciated.
Curious....did you go regular or Space Black? Which strap? What was your proposed delivery date when you ordered?
I went Space Black with Sport Band, it showed October 4-11 when I ordered.
I ordered mine as well - Titanium regular with sport loop and it delivers Oct 3-7.
Titanium 44mm, not black, pine green sports band. Delivery date is
23/25-9. I am however, in the UK.
Don't get your hopes up -- typically the carrier has instructions to not deliver before Friday -- while slips seem to happen each year, they're very much the exception.
My Hermes was due to deliver on 20th. Just received email saying :
