I had an Apple Watch Series SS Space Blk 44mm and lost it. In the interim I bought a series 9 SS Silver 45mm I like it.
However I never stopped pining for the Series 5SS Space Blk 44mm I decided to buy a refurb series 5 SS Space Blk on EBay.
I just got it today and it is pristine however comparing to the 45mm to the 44mm huge difference.
but that Space Black SS is an awesome finish thoroughly joying it……

Cool, it’s a shame that Apple doesn’t offer SBSS anymore (except Hermes), I still have my S4 SBSS and it is pristine, and small compared to my S7 and tiny compared to my Ultra2 ;).
Enjoy

They move it to the Hermes good ole corporate greed.
Thanks I will

What's funny is I did the same thing. I had a Series 0 that I remembered being such a nice rich, deep black that you almost couldn't see where the screen ended and the case began.

I went years without one in my collection and a Hermes 6 in Space Black popped up with a matching black Milanese Loop that I couldn't resist. I felt like it was actually a little pearlized; which is weird to describe. The finish actually looks like an even darker Graphite Steel color.

So I went above and beyond, and found an Ebay Series 5 in Space Black. I can confirm, the Series 5 and earlier (a coworker has a black 4) is a very dark, almost jet-black. The Series 6 and later not as deep and dark, but it ironically matches the graphite Apple Milanese loop far better. I also have a cheap Ebay Milanese loop that's absolutely deep, dark black. It against the Series 6 really highlights the difference.

Anyway, cool post, and cool to see others remember that finish before it went Hermes-exclusive. I can't help but wonder if the coating on the case changed the color when they changed it to a Hermes Edition. Hmm...

My SS series 7 cellular is space black and I think it looks so good with SS silver connection to the saddle brown leather strap. The silver and brown strap highlights the black.

I’m lucky to have a Hermes SBSS and a regular SS, both series 9, I enjoy the look of both.

Probs a lot of people did not like that space black is way too dark, so Apple had to change it to a Hermes exclusivity and use a lighter shade of graphite in Apple Watch Series 6 and later.

The space black is very dark where the screen seems to blend in into the chassis of the watch. Remember the jet black iPhone 7 back in the day? That flagship color is similar but instead is a specialized coating on the aluminum, not the glass found on its successor, the iPhone 8 then the iPhone SE 2.

I still think the SB SS is the best color Apple has done. I had the series 2 SB SS and then a series 4 SB SS. Just a beautiful watch. Paired with the SB link bracelet, just amazing.

Yes, agree, I liked the “color aspect” of my S4SBSS better than my Ultra. If, big if, Apple will offer a SB Ultra I am going to strongly consider it

My only problem being my current straps won't work with the SB Ultra. ☹️
Because of size? Yea, if you’re having a 41 that won’t work…
I came from a 45 but have only been wearing the ocean band as I didn’t like the look of my existing Nike sport bands with the Ultra, SB might change my mind

No I have the Ultra 1, I mean the current straps for my Ultra won't match the SB coating. With all my Alpine Loops being natural titanium, they wouldn't go with the SB.

So is your space black Apple Watch a 44/45mm?

Unless if you had a silver titanium Apple Watch Edition Series 5 to S7 the Apple Watch Ultra bands may match. It will just be a bit bulky with a regular Apple Watch if you use the Alpine Loop or Ocean Band. The lugs may be off with the natural titanium.

My series 4 was the 44mm. I have a series 7 that is 45mm but it's the graphite color. Not even close with the SB.

Graphite Apple Watch Series 6 and later in stainless steel is quite light. Just a stainless steel and polished finish of the space grey aluminum color before the Apple Watch Series 7.

Even if you get bands with space gray lugs they might be close enough to match the graphite stainless, but in a matted finish.

I am really not too worried, as I don’t think Apple will release a dark titanium Ultra.

Gotcha. I still even reuse ♻️ bands specifically made for matching my space gray S1 with my SS S6. I don’t mind the lug colors being off nor looking matted.

I even had space black lugs in some of my leather straps and I don’t mind that either, if it’s on the plain or gold stainless Apple Watch.

Oh dang, I am just way too picky about that. I don’t mind so much SS with the titanium, but I can’t do the dark with the light.

Even the truer shade of yellow gold on the gold stainless steel Apple Watch Series 6 and later has a minor difference with bands with silver, shiny stainless steel lugs. If I were to own a gold S5 or S4, the silver lugs would look obviously lighter than the case due to the fact that the gold stainless steel Apple Watch Series 5 and 4 are more brassy and coppery.

It is a similar analogy to the space black and graphite stainless steel ones as well.

My favorite band for Ultra is the Ocean band, I have the trail loop and it’s just OK. After the Ocean band my next favorite is the new Nike sport loop, it feels thicker and more substantial than the previous Nike sport loop. You might like it

I have a sport loop, from many Years ago, they don’t dry well as I shower with my watch on

True, I never shower with my watch, and when I do wash my sport loop, it’s left to dry overnight. To Shower I believe the ocean band is best.

And the sport band. Especially for swimming y’all. The solo loop that is not braided can also be worn for that as these are easier to clean and dry out.
