Maybe TouchID will unlock local MacOS devices? It’s a drag to go back to my iMac and have to type in my password when I can unlock my iPhone, iPad and MacBook by just looking or touching.

I know... That read as though I am so entitled and spoiled.
My Apple Watch unlocks my MacBook Pro each time I use it, automagically.

Apple will certainly need to improve battery life in a big way for people to use sleep tracking...

I have an Apple Watch 5 and it was an OK upgrade from the Series 2, but this would be the biggest upgrade since the Series 3. However, the TouchID rumors seems like ********.

Be nice to have an Apple Watch Air where is just notifications, calling and Bluetooth and extra battery. No health hardware.

Touch ID isn’t something I need but if they can pull it off in the display, why not?

That sleep tracking is still missing is unbelievable. I really hope they have something extra up their sleeves since it has taking this long to add it.

Should be a sleep mode with extra low power usage, screen off, and most other things off also.

maybe they want the better SpO2 reading for some fancy sleep data?

"The Apple Watch itself also uses skin contact as a biometric authentication option for Apple Pay payments and other functions. Series 7?
Or is it supposed to be series 6?? 😅
Editorial error or simply questionable rumor?

As in Touch ID would be added to the Digital Crown in the Series 6 and relocated to the display in the Series 7.

Apple should be able to do the pulse ox given that other companies have now figured this out.

Yes in this pandemic, I have to go back to passcode to unlock my phone. FaceID is annoying to use these days with masks.
Set up alternative FaceID to recognize you with a mask.

I use my Apple Watch now to unlock my Mac. It’s just a setting under security and Privacy.

I turned that feature off on day 2. Just walking up to your Mac and unlocking it automatically is not good security. I don’t want it to unlock until I want it to unlock. Just being nearby is not wise.

Mine used to until I turned that feature off. It’s a terrible implementation. Just walk by and your tech unlocks? Bad. Bad. Bad.

Wrong. Wrong. Wrong. That's not how it works. It only auto unlocks in response to a screen wake event. So you'd have to be in close proximity at the same time somebody opened your laptop or is giving keyboard or mouse input.

You also missed the sound and haptic notification on the watch. This combines to mean that somebody could only access your computer if they literally did it right in front of you.

The upcoming Apple Watch Series 6 set to be released this fall could include a Touch ID fingerprint sensor built into the crown of the device, according to Israeli site The Verifier, which cites "senior sources" who have worked with its staff for a "number of years" as the source of the rumor.

It's not clear how the alleged Touch ID fingerprint sensor would be implemented, as the Digital Crown is already used for capturing an ECG in the current Apple Watch models with an included electrode.

A Touch ID fingerprint sensor sounds like somewhat of an odd feature to add to the Apple Watch, but it could potentially alleviate the need for a PIN when putting on the Apple Watch in the morning. The Apple Watch already unlocks when the iPhone is unlocked, but unlocking it on a standalone basis requires a numerical code to be entered.

The Apple Watch itself also uses skin contact as a biometric authentication option for Apple Pay payments and other functions. In the Apple Watch Series 7, The Verifier claims that the Touch ID fingerprint sensor will be relocated to the display, but two drastic Touch ID tweaks in two years may be questionable as Apple tends to make fewer changes to Apple Watch hardware.

Apple's next-generation Apple Watch is also said to include an improved battery, broader support for LTE, and support for WiFi 6.

The Verifier also outlines some of the features coming to watchOS 7, many of which we've heard before. watchOS 7 will allegedly include a "fresh design," updates to built-in apps, and improvements to Siri, with little other information included.

Echoing other rumors, The Verifier says Apple is working on pulse ox monitoring for the Apple Watch and sleep tracking capabilities. Pulse oximetry support would allow the Apple Watch to measure the oxygen levels in the blood, making sure a person's oxygen saturation does not drop to a dangerous level, which can be indicative of a serious and immediate problem that needs to be addressed.

Sleep tracking is a feature that we've heard a lot about in recent months, with Apple expected to introduce sleep monitoring capabilities in the near future. Sleep tracking would measure metrics like time asleep and sleep quality.

According to The Verifier, watchOS 7 will be compatible with the Apple Watch Series 3 and later, with Apple planning to drop support for the Apple Watch Series 2 and earlier.

The Verifier last week claimed that tvOS 14 will feature a new Kids Mode with content geared towards children and a Screen Time feature to measure time spent watching TV.

In the past, The Verifier has shared some questionable information that has not panned out, so it's worth viewing these rumors with some skepticism until confirmed by another source.

People - that means it’s the first one that’s going to be untethered! Helloooo?

I know how to works. :)

That level of convenience isn’t good security IMO. I had someone trick me into unlocking my Mac so simply. I immediately turned that feature off.

My outstanding Apple Watch S3, good chance of retirement. I have had the best results with the S3. This one could push me to trade up.

Why will that be useful?

I am not saying the current Apple watches aren’t good. I was just never a watch wearer anyway. But having a camera would actually make me want a watch. Very Dick Tracy. You could face time on it. To me that would be very cool.

At what point does a Smart Watch become too expensive?

Apple as a brand starts off the race as a premium product that only a particular subsection of the market can afford to buy - and that's only who can afford to - not all of whom will want to.

Now there's the Apple Watch, which essentially is an add on feature to the iPhone... so, if they keep adding more and more features to the Watch, which will inevitably push the price of the product up and up - how long until they price themselves out of the market?

he says whilst checking eBay for an Apple Watch V1 to "test the waters"...

An FP sensor built into the display would be ideal but doesn’t seem that necessary altogether.

This might actually be for the pulse oximeter feature. I've used a pulse oximeter and it requires me to stick my finger into an electronic clamp-like device that seems to scan my finger.
