So they're exclusive to s6 hardware? I'd be a bit miffed if they didn't kind of suck anyway. I like that one on the s4/s5 with tick marks that go all the way around the edge, it looks the most "like a watch" rather than "like a round dial on a rectangle"
Since it is sounding like this is indeed the case, it’s a dick move, as they generally don’t restrict several faces to the new Watch.

Only gripe is they removed something that was provided within the price and did not provide an equivalent price reduction to support the removal - the USB power adapter. If you are that conscious, make it solar-powered and be done with both batteries and adapter then.
What makes you think the bits they added don’t match the cost of the bits they removed? Why do you think that the cost of the parts and building the watch are exactly the same as last year’s model? Seems like and overly simplistic interpretation.

And the Apple Watch has a large battery for a watch, and needs to be recharged every day or two. There’s no way you could run it on solar cells unless you had a panel covering most of your arm, and stood out in the sun a lot.

Are you really not seeing/ choosing to not see this move by Apple for what it is?

I have GM installed on S5 and can confirm the new faces aren’t featured..only Chronograph Pro

Can confirm Series 4 has the new watch faces as well!

Prior to updating to the GM build on my iPhone. I was able to get to the new watch faces by force touching my apple watch and scrolling all the way to the right and clicking "+" sign.

After updating to the GM build on my iPhone, new watch faces also appear in the watch app!

Hope this helps everyone!

i just got a brand new s3 watch last week and some of the new faces are available (those weird designer face ones for example). I only wanted the Stripes one, but I don’t see it being available, so Apple must be restricting *some* of the faces for later hardware 🙄

It’s not that they’re restricting the watch faces to newer hardware it’s that they’re only coding some of the newer watch faces for the newer sizes of the Watch - 44mm and 40mm, vs the old 42mm and 38mm, which had fewer dots on the screen.

I don’t think it’s to leave older watches out, so much as it is a perfectionist attitude of, “no, we can only fully realize our vision of what this Watch face should be on the newer hardware”. Which, sure, you could make a reasonable argument that they could make a “good enough” version on the older hardware, but that’s not how they roll.

That doesn’t make sense tho because here’s one of the new designs on a Series 3 42mm (just took the screenshot). So it seems more of a “here’s a teaser to what you could have if you upgraded” attitude. If it can work on 40mm, it can work on 42mm.

Missing my point. Here are the screen sizes, in pixels, of all the watches released so far:
  • 38mm: 272×340 pixels
  • 42mm: 312×390 pixels
  • 40mm: 324×394 pixels
  • 44mm: 368×448 pixels
Which two of those are the same? None of them. And if 40 and 42 are close, so what? Do you expect them to release a watch face for 42 but not for 38? And you’re looking at one of the new watch faces, not all of them. It would take extra effort to make them work on the older watches. Sure, in some cases, not a lot of effort, but, again, that’s not how Apple thinks. They’re not trying to force you to upgrade, but they’re not, in many cases, expending extra effort making new watch faces work on old watches, often because the underlying hardware has different limitations.

I see, so your point is that while Apple could have very easily made the new faces available to all models, they chose not to because they only wish to focus on their most recent tech's physical size and digital capabilities.

My point is that it would take me 10 minutes to code two additional apps for two different watch faces. I can understand Apple wanting to encourage focus on the newer tech, but this is ridiculous.

Answer me this: why did they go and include one of the new watch faces (Artist) for the Series 3, and only one? If your argument is correct, then they would not have included any.
