Hi, I just purchased an apple watch series 6 stainless steel and upon setting it up, I noticed that there is a hard scratch on the uppper left stainless steel and with some microscratches onthe other section. I then went back to the store to tell them the issue and they gladly replaced it with a new one. Upon opening the new one, it also has the same hard scratch on the upper left part and with some microscratches in other sections.
My question is, is this normal that this is now the quality that apple produces? I had bought my apple watch series 4 stainless steel with very good condition upon opening it, this is my first time to encounter this type of situation.

At the end of the day, i just accepted the series 6 unit with scracthes on the body 🙁
Very bad quality control from apple 🙁

here is a photo with the hard visible scratch

You should exchange it again. Just open the box at the store until you get the one that makes you happy

Keep on opening at the store until they give you one in new condition. Or tell them you will keep the scratched one but not pay full price

I agree that the watch should be absolutely perfect out of the box, but it is so easy to completely polish out a scratch like that with a Cape Cod polishing cloth. Would remove that in seconds.
Much easier than going back and forth to replace anyway.

The cloth is a good investment to keep it pristine with a polish every now and then so I wouldn't consider it an extra cost to fix the issue.

You can bring it back and exchange it for a different one or polish it out as Pug72 suggested. More than likely, your watch will get scratches down the road and it will need a polish every now and then to keep it looking new.

Bummer that it was scratched right out of the box. You should be able to exchange it at an Apple Store. Whether it will be worth your while is debatable though.

As others have pointed out, the stainless steel WILL pick up scratches on over time. It’s just a question of when - there simply is no way to avoid it. Your only options are to use a Cape Cod cloth to polish it occasionally, live with the scratches, or get a different finish that is coated.

Just to give an update to this topic. I am based in Japan and I purchased the apple watch 6 stainless steel at an apple 3rd party re-seller (Yodobashi) which had the scratches on the watch upon opening for the 2 units. There are apple stores here in Japan but I went to Yodobashi since I can buy it on the spot. Unlike in the apple store, you will either have to buy it online or schedule a visitation appointment (due to covid situation) which would take up a lot of time.

Anyway, I called Apple support and they told me that I should go back to Yodobashi and request for a replacement or refund, but Apple support did note that it would be under the discretion of the reseller policy guidelines and not Apple.
I went back to Yodobashi and they stated their policy and said that I cannot request for refund or have it be changed to a new one. My only choice is to choose between the 2 units that I have opened which have scratches. Since this was my only choice, I just took the less scratched apple watch and go on.

Lesson learn here is that it is better to buy Apple products in an Apple store. The Apple support even told me that this would have been a different story if I have bought it in an Apple store.

Exchange it. But know these SS watches scratch easily. So in a few months time it will be a spider web of micro scratches.
