Three sizes .......... hmmmmmm ..........?

and posted as a boomer that bought a 44 AW4 as my 1st but it's gets swam w/ etc. sev X's a week so perhaps time to upgrade ?

No. Since Series 4, there have always been 6 identifiers for each generation. For example the current S6: A2291 (40mm GPS) A2292 (44mm GPS) A2293, A2375 (40mm GPS + Cellular) A2294, A2376 (44mm GPS + Cellular). There are two different identifiers for both cellular sizes because the US and „global“ models have different LTE bands.
