Am I the only one who thinks that the haptic engine is way too oversized? Apple should find a way to miniaturize it...

It’s an incredible upgrade for S1-3 and a solid upgrade for S4. S5-6 wearers can honestly wait for a year or two. Always-on display and cellular connection are great improvements. I think Apple Watch is maturing quickly and we can easily wear the S7 for 4-5 years solid.
I would recommend waiting for the Series 8. Either Apple comes around with a complete redesign and new Sensors or the Series 7 will be cheap.

And this is why I am completely happy to skip 1 generation or possibly even 2 with my LTE apple watches.

Wow, that Taptic Engine is gargantuan. As someone who hasn’t taken their watch out of mute once since owning it, and considering force-touch is dead, I wish there was a no haptics version with double the battery.
Time to rethink your strat! lol

I think the point they were making is that with the S7 having the larger screen, the smaller 41mm S7 has almost the same screen real estate as the larger 44mm S6 and below watch. So some are considering dropping to the smaller size this gen to get a smaller watch but with the same (ish) screen size they previously had on their larger watch. However, doing so would mean your bands for the previous size are incompatible.
Ok, that makes sense when you think about it that way. Although I don't know how people can be mad at Apple for making it so owners can continue using the same watch bands for 7+ years now. ;)

Is this only if you have Applecare? I don’t have AppleCare on my watch, so would they replace my battery (watch) for only $79? The battery status indicates 87% capacity, but the battery life falls short of 18 hours. I think I’m down to 14 hours; though when I exercise, I seem to burn through 30% in 2 hours.

Also, can someone tell me: with the series 6 and 7, if you disable the ‘always on’ option, will you see a nice increase in battery life? I’m on a series 4 stainless steel, I actually came across my receipt today while I was cleaning up old files. Since I’m not used to the always-on display, I wouldn’t notice it being off, but I would notice an extended battery life!

I don't believe it matters. The apple watch, as far as I know, is not repairable.

Scroll down to battery at the bottom of the page $79 for out of warranty. You are basically paying a subsidized price to replace your watch.

If you have AC, they won't replace the battery until it's under 80%. My series 5 is at 83%, so I plan on replacing it soon. Someone on here a few weeks ago sent off their series 5 and got a 6 back. It happens, depending on stock. But if you don't have AC, they probably don't care what the life is at and will gladly take your $79.

Since the AOD was released with the series 5, the consensus is that turning it off only gives a marginal increase in battery life—not enough to really notice a difference. Apple's spec sheet for battery life has remained the same for every model—18 hours. So while the S5 and up have an AOD, they also have more efficient chips. So a series 5-6-7 with AOD is rated to have the same battery life as a series 0-4.

Streaming audio and constantly using the heart rate monitor will kill the battery the fastest. If you're doing a 2-hour workout, then that's really going to hit the battery.

Tiny tech looking mighty impressive.
I honesty dont know what they’ll do with the Series 8, unless they decide to change the form factor which I doubt.

form factor will remain the same. Apple and others have proven that the amount of data displayed for digital content and the best feel on wrist and largest battery is in this form factor as does fitbit and so many other competitors of this caliber.

Now that Taptic Engine seriously NEEDS to be micronized! The iPhone 12/13 mini's was dramatically reduced in size while maintain effective vibrational power the same as regular and pro size models. Same needs to occur here.

I suspect S8 will be larger 45 & 52mm.

Wasn't there something about a year or two ago that mentioned the battery was going to become the taptic engine? In other words the Mass of the battery moving back and forth was going to provide the felt force.

It’s interesting to me how heavily Apple optimizes each design. The battery in the 45mm is 5.7 Watt*minutes bigger than the one in the 41mm, but they didn’t use the same battery in both, they packed in every last Joule they could.

Thanks. I actually looked it up as well out of curiosity. It's not really worth it to me for an old watch to replace the battery. I'd rather put that money toward a new one. Which I don't really need yet (my Series 4 is well, though battery life is diminishing, and battery health is 87% after 3 years). My old Series 2 won't even connect to my phone anymore, I've restarted, unpaired, re-paired, etc, and it just will not work properly. And wow, does that 42mm screen look TINY, even compared to my 44mm series 4!

Re watch battery use during exercise, yes, I was tracking everything I did, I'm sure that used a lot of energy. I streamed music from my phone to my earbuds, though. Although the watch was 'aware' of the streams as it displayed the 'playing now' info.

I really wish that in the next iteration, Apple makes an increase in battery life a goal. Any strenuous activity or streaming just eats up so much battery at the current use-hours rating...!

Sample of one but no issue swapping my APPL Nike sports & woven braided loops from my 44 AW4 to my 45 AW7.
I was replying to someone who suggested the little one had caught up and therefore was the clear choice even for those who’d previously owned the large one.

My point was all of the 42/44/45mm bands that you’d taken ownership of with previous models would overhang the 41mm if you went down a size.
Can’t follow you on this. All bands are backwards compatible. What are you trying to say?

To be fair, 1 cable instead of 2, and a 1.6% increase in battery life isn’t exactly game changing. Particularly for the user.
The only difference to the S6 user that is noticeable will be the bigger bezel-less display. That is a lot of money to spend for a bigger display. This is a great upgrade for an S4 owner and a okay/good upgrade for an S5 owner. It’s a splurge if you own an S6.
