I never owned an apple watch but they are nice to have. With the design of the 7 I was tempted but still holding off. Maybe another design change and some more features added I will try it out.

I remember the Jawbone days. Simple wrist band with fitness features through an app. Not sure if one is out there but I could do with one without a screen (maybe just a series of color LED's for specific notifications like samsung had on their phones years ago).

See if this is the year I buy an Apple Watch?

Have been thinking of it...but I still have a pretty good Polar watch that do mostly what I need from it.
Having a clock telling me that I have overstepped my own signals and might be getting sick, I don't need either. My body and me have good sync.
I have good check of my training 75% yoga/astanga/yin - 25% running/walk.

But well, I will buy a Apple Watch the day I want a new watch, but if this is the year, we'll see? Probably next. But never underestimate the want factor of Apple stuff 😉

Apple Watch 6.2 …. I mean 8 …. isn’t a compelling upgrade for a lot of existing users. I know they are working on things like a blood glucose and/or blood sugar monitor and a blood pressure monitor but my understanding is those are years out if they’ll even be possible at all. Until then I’m not sure what they could add in to make the 6.x series (which is what the 7 and 8 really are) compelling enough to upgrade from the 6.

The upcoming Apple Watch Series 8 will be able to tell a wearer if it believes they have a fever due to a higher than normal body temperature thanks to a new built-in sensor, according to Bloomberg's reliable Mark Gurman.

Writing in the latest edition of his Power On newsletter, Gurman says that the Apple Watch Series 8 will feature a new body temperature sensor, given that the sensor passes Apple's internal testing.

Gurman notes, however, that he believes the sensor is "a go" for both the standard Series 8 and a new "rugged model" designed for athletes. Unlike a traditional dedicated thermometer, the Apple Watch will not give users a direct reading of their current body temperature but will instead directly alert users if it believes they have a fever.
In January, Gurman said that internal chatter of a body temperature sensor for the Apple Watch Series 8 had slowed down. Since then, enthusiasm for the feature has apparently increased within Apple, helping push development forward. Apple has frequently added new sensors and health capabilities to the Apple Watch, with the last addition being the blood oxygen sensor in the Apple Watch Series 6.

Besides the new body temperature sensor, the Apple Watch Series 8 is expected to maintain the same design as the Apple Watch Series 7, including the same processor as the Series 6 and 7. Gurman today noted that the Apple Watch Series 8 might include updated displays in the higher-end models.

If it ships with blood glucose monitoring, I won’t need finger sticks or my trusty Libre 2 cgm sensors any longer. That would be a huge win for those of us with type 2 diabetes. i am very hopeful that happens as I have a series 4 and have been waiting for the feature to arrive.

Wait, isn’t this the bigger news? Wasn’t it supposed to have a brand new design? Or is this referring to chip design or something?

I’ve been saying this for a long time. Apple bracelet: Sleek stainless steel and glass design. Very Limited or no display. Mostly for sensors and Siri functionality. Can be worn together with a regular watch or by itself when you don’t want bulk. (It sucks when you have to choose between a nice watch or your Apple Watch). Extended battery life due to the display being out of the picture. $399 price point. Id buy one right now.

I upgraded from a series 3 to my current series 7. Worthy upgrade. That said, I will never upgrade again until they can measure blood sugar.

This will be a welcome feature if you need constant body temperature monitoring or an actual reading. If you only need to tell if you have a fever or not, just put your palm on your forehead...

Good, most of the time i didnt notice that i am above 39 C and feel absolutely fresh :)

Apple being Apple again, one incremental upgrade every year for the watch. Series 9 Blood Pressure; series 10 glucose checker; series 11 spouse annoyance stats; series 12 Libido level checker lmao..

How about 3-day battery life first before all these additional add-on features.

This is certainly one use, but I’d imagine there’s also exercise features that can use this. How? I don’t know, I’m not a doctor, but body temperature does rise when exercising so maybe a way to monitor that could be useful?

Yes, let's fight for less health options.
I'm really not understanding some of these comments. Like, you can just not use the health options if you are, for some reason, against them.

But they are the advent of new technologies. This is a Mac-enthusiast forum, which means the people here are likely also tech enthusiasts. So why are there so many people pooh-poohing advances in technology and features that help others track their health?

I criticize Apple frequently for stuff.... But, in my mind, I think it is fairly legitimate criticism... But this seems to be criticism of Apple for doing exactly what Apple should be doing: developing new technologies that consumers want, need, or will want in the future.

another Sunday Gurman click-bait ... body temp is available today in other smartwatches and has been rumored for AW for what? a year?

After the extremely useful 20-second timer Handwashing feature, now a fever monitor.

Next, I need Siri on Apple Watch tell me when it's time to eat and drink water because I can't know for sure.
My take is that people benefit by being more attuned to their body naturally. I don’t want nor need my watch telling me when to stand, when I’ve met my move goal for the day, etc. In short, I love my Apple Watch when it works for ME. I use it to keep track of my workouts and walks, because I find that useful and helpful, but I don’t like it interfering with my attention and such.

I'm on a S6 and well, the S7 wasn't a large enough upgrade for me, and I don't think body temperature is going to be one either; especially if the rumours of the chip remaining largely the same materialise.

More than that... this might have been using two years ago, but I have no use for regularly testing my temperature.

I'll repeat a point I have previously made re temperature monitoring.

Low temperatures can be every bit as significant regarding health as high temperatures. This can happen when infected by Covid, when suffering hypothyroidism, low blood sugar, alcohol (especially in cold conditions), as well as various forms of cold exposure.
