They may not even mention the chip change, or only have it on one of their slides with lots of squares. "37% faster" or whatever. I don't see them making a big deal out of it; people don't buy Apple Watches for specs.
It depends. I did not buy the Ultra and went for an S8 mainly because of the chip.
I will not put 800$ on something with an almost 4 years old chip.
350$ (Amazon discount) was more reasonable.

hopefully the focus is on taking advantage of the power saving and efficiency improvents. Even my S5 is fast enough for everything at them moment.

I don’t think slightly improved battery life is going to make much difference to the Watch.

Slightly improved, no. But if they can make significant gains, that'd be cool. I wear my watch to bed to track how I sleep, so it'd be nice to have 24+ hours of battery to have a few more windows of opportunity to charge.

How is this important? And I mean that question 100% seriously. I have a series 8 watch. If it were 500% faster, how would that be noticeable to me? When I check a notification or a run distance or something else, would I see a difference between 5ms and 1ms?

Generally speaking, more computational power eventually unlocks new capabilities, because software always evolves to make use of the available resources.

For me, a significant gain would be ideally around 5 days between charges.

Stopped using apple watch after series 6 and passed to withings scanwatch, lasts very long and basic and looks like real watch.
I thought about a shift this direction as well but realized I wanted access to music while I ran (and no, I'm not going to hold a phone in one hand like some luddite), quick authentication into certain work apps, easy access to the subway without needing a phone in hand, and subtle notifications (haptic and not audible) when its time to drink water or when I have a new message. Any way I cut it, I still really appreciate the way the :apple:Watch has made me less reliant on my phone, more present in my surroundings, and motivated me to get into better shape now than I was 20 years ago. I'm not sure I could say the same for a non-smart HR watch.

As long as it improves the battery life.
My old Series 3 still holds 100% of charge after 3 years of usage but my Series 6 barely holds onto 81% after the same usage after 2 years.

There is history actually: the first model was simply called the Apple Watch. Then 1.5 year later there were two models that replaced it called series 1 and series 2 with the series 2 having the better performing chip with GPS. The next year it was only series 3.
Hence retrospectively people started calling the first model the series 0 although this was never what apple called it.
I meant within the watch industry, obviously there's history from the Apple Watch, that's what we're talking about

Apple would have to do something incredibly significant for me to buy a new watch and meh. The 6 is doing just fine for me, other than a battery replacement eventually, I have no complaints. Honestly if my old company didn’t pay for my 6 I would have probably had stuck with the 3 still, and in fact a family member uses it now and he has no complaints other than battery. I’ll wait for the series 12 thanks 😂

Who were created by God in His image, yeah.

Cute edgy trolling, though. Really groundbreaking.
The origin of this is in Genesis and the "image" refers to the spiritual aspect of humans, not the physical. Altho I'm all for being an invisible man in the sky like God if that's on the menu, but it seems we didn't get any of the all-powerful lord of the universe stuff. Gip.

Let's see how long it will run when you can't set it down to charge overnight, or want the heart monitor to be active all day AND all night.

I have a Series 6 since launch and the poor battery life and slow charging and making me consider either upgrading to the Series 9 if it's worth it.. or a Garmin 7 Solar edition as I like to track my tramping and running.

I expect 25 percent performance improvement over Series 8’s S8 chip.
What we really want is better battery life, efficiency, and charging efficiency, right? I mean yeah some actual compute performance improvement, but we're needing more juice in some way.

When have you needed performance improvement on your Apple watch?

I'd be happy if there were no speed or charging efficiency, but just longer (much longer) battery life.

I'll try to be more clear.

1. I think we want/need much more from the battery.
2. Maybe we might want some small compute improvements.

So, I think, we (mostly) agree here. At least enough to avoid further discussion.

P.S. "When have you needed performance improvement on your Apple watch?" sometimes there is some slowness that could use a minor boost.
