It seems like it might be able to be used in a few more areas of the UI but they say “a brand new gestures to make using your watch even easier” and that simply isn’t true.
I hope it’s expanding the current version instead of a separate one.

Why do they insist on Graphite finish when even on the iPhone they've switched back to Space Black, which looks so much better?

It’s definitely double. They’re just renaming it from pinch to tap.

Very weird but I'm happy its not limited to the S9 or Ultra 2.

At this point everything that isn’t ”dramatically improved battery life” or ”user replaceable battery” is going to get an empathic eyeroll from me.
I guess this should not to far into the future.or do smart watches not apply for the eu regulation change towards smartphones.

Gonna upgrade from a Series 4, can’t hold out anymore if Series X/10 is the big upgrade I’ll just sell the Series 9 and upgrade. Surely 4 > 9 would be a huge upgrade, I don’t even know what I’ll be getting as I haven’t been keeping track.

I wish they finally would have made the Watch compatible with iPad (so you don’t need an iPhone) but of course they won’t. So yet another year I won’t buy one!
This will never happen, and so you will never own an Apple Watch.

I already have the 8, wouldn't me buying this as a replacement watch create more of an environment impact than not buying the exact same watch under the "series 9" banner?

So it looks like it is "hardware limited" based on this quote in Apple's press release:

"The new double tap gesture is enabled by the faster Neural Engine in Apple Watch Ultra 2, which processes data from the accelerometer, gyroscope, and optical heart sensor with a new machine learning algorithm. The algorithm detects the unique signature of tiny wrist movements and changes in blood flow when the index finger and thumb perform a double tap. The double tap gesture will be available in a software update next month."

Although it does say its going to be released as a software update so I guess its not ready. Or they want to be vague and hope people upgrade to the AWU2 when the AWU will also be able to do this🥲😌

There's literally not a single thing shown in this ad that I haven't been using gesture controls for. And it takes the same time and works the exact same way as when I do it.

And there aren't any new types of sensors, measuring vitals that Series 8 doesn't. It's just better versions of the SiP and some of the old sensors. There are no new types of sensors or new kinds of vitals that S9 can measure.
