So, this week, I really came to appreciate a feature that Oura has in their software. For those not familiar, Oura makes a readiness/recovery smart ring. In their software, you can now manually enable Rest Mode and add a tag for the reason.

I was sick this past week, and so I enabled Rest Mode. This stops the app from giving you activity goals and focuses the feedback even more on recovery. Once I turned Rest Mode off, it even gave me feedback that took in to consideration that I’d been sick. It wasn’t super specific, but it suggested that I take it easy getting back in to exercise, so as to not overexert myself. Great implementation of rest/sick days.

Apple really really needs to implement something similar for the Apple Watch. It just sucks to have your streaks and awards ruined because of sickness, and it’s not a good idea for people to be encouraged to exercise when they’re sick or worn out.

That would be so helpful if they did, because I’ve been sick for almost 2 weeks and couldn’t exercise not one day. I had to take a walk to close my exercise and move rings.

That is an excellent idea, PG. Make sure and post feedback to Apple about that idea.

There is a "Mind & Body" option in the Exercise app that allows you to close the exercise and move rings without doing any physical activity.

Cant wait to get all the awards using the "mental health" excuse.

That's not what this is about. Those who exercise on a regular basis understand the vital importance of recovery days. The "Mind & Body" workout can serve that purpose. It might not be the most elegant solution, but it will do until Apple comes up with something better.

Where is this "Mind & Body" workout? I don't see it on my AW5 or the Apple list: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT207934

On your Apple Watch > workout > add workout (it’s at the bottom of the list) > choose from the list of workouts you can add to your list. FYI, you can delete any of the default workouts in the main list by swiping left and tapping the X that will appear. So don’t worry about adding and deleting stuff. Anything you delete can be added back to the main list from >add workout<.

or you can manually lower your goals for the days you are sick / resting ........ its not perfect but allows you to keep rings closed based on your goal for that day. . If I have a planned 'rest' day then I lower my goal for that day only and back to normal the next day.

Thanks. Never explored those. Fitness gaming is a new one to me.

*Arise zombie thread*🧟‍♂️

Came here to say the same thing. I'm currently sick and it's like my watch is shaming me almost daily noticing different trends on different days. It should ask me after like second trend warning: "Are you currently sick or injured?". If I click yes it should then ask me - how many days do you think you need to recover?. I could select a number, and then it would not annoy me again until that many days have passed, at which point it checks in with me again.

Apple is incredibly backward in this respect. They have data: age, gender, weight, medications taken. The rings should have adapted to this a long time ago, or at least to the training of the previous day. Instead, for years we had goals and it didn't matter if the goal was exceeded by 400%, the next day the goal was the same as the previous day. Gentler.app does it exactly as it should be done. Garmin does it even better. Now we have training load, but I don't count on it suggesting anything in the settings automatically, apart from dry information. Vital.app is the same - this information is pathetic, as is the fact that it's just an app on the watch.

You are able to pause your rings now. In the upper left “graph” function, scroll to the bottom to find the pause option.
I know that perfectly well, but such a powerful company should, with so much health data, set trends. Currently, it is overtaken by independent developers and companies that do not have wagons of cash for development.

WatchOS 11 would’ve been perfect for me last summer, when I suffered a PE and was down for 6 weeks. Any form of exercise was exhausting, so I had to use the mind & body workout or try to do yoga to close my rings.
