I was out to buy an apple watch, but i'm getting more and more confused.

I didn't know what size to get, so i got into an apple reseller and tried both models.
The 42 looks a bit big on my wrist, the 38 fits better, be it a bit small.

So i would go for the 38 in black.

But then came the problem of the band ...
For starters, the sport band is a pain to close. I wear my watch on my right hand so the closing is upside down already and it's very fiddly to close without dropping the watch. (Maybe you can switch the bands around so it's easier?)

The 38's band was stretched to the last hole, making it hard to keep it closed. The bit of left over band that goes into the hole would pop out easy.
The 42's band needed to be used in the smallest hole and it was slightly loose at that.

So i really would prefer another band, preferably a one piece band.
The one with velcro, hmm, no thanks, velcro is for kids ;-).

The leather loop isn't available for the 38 ...

The milanese loop and steel band are made for the steel watch which is discontinued (unless you can use them on the alu sport watch to?) And i'm not even sure the loop is large enough.

Guess my fitbit will have to last a bit longer then.

Having you consider the nylon bands? There are lots of third Party bands available as well.

The Milanese loop and link bands are NOT discontinued. And neither is the stainless Model Apple Watch.

So i really would prefer another band, preferably a one piece band.

You do realize the Apple Watch bands are in two pieces because they have separate connectors to the Apple Watch.

Ask the sales person to demonstrate to you how to close the sport band. It’s easy but I admit I didn’t know how to do it at first.

I wear it on the right hand and yes, you need to switch the bands around otherwise its a PITA to close the sport band!

What? The steel watch isn’t discontinued. They are popular and still very much for sale.

Sport bands used to come in two sizes out of the box.

Yes, you can flip the bands around, but it depends on how you have the crown oriented.

Both the 38 and 42 comes with two sizes of sports band in the box. Perhaps you would need to use the M/L instead of the S/M. There are actually three separate pieces in the box. The "common" strap that has the pin and the two pieces with the holes.

So i really would prefer another band, preferably a one piece band.

Well, you could call it "hook and loop" fastening system. haha.

There are plenty Milanese loops from aftermarket vendors on Amazon. Some are pretty good. I personally bought one for like $15. It's OK, but I never use it.

I find the nylon band a bit cheap looking and i'm not a big velcro fan.

The milanese loop and link are still available but in short supply. Since the apple watch 3 there is no longer a steel version, only the alu sport watch and the series 1.
Some shops still have old series 2 steel watches but they're rare.

With a "one piece band", i mean one that when it's attached to the watch doesn't open up. The type you clip open to make it wider so you can just slip your hand in. So even when it's not attached to a watch it would still be a single piece?

I can't find any steel apple watch 3 on apple's website, nor any apple store here so they're just not for sale.

Good to know sports bands come in two sizes, that wasn't very clear in the store.

Ah, great to know i can flip the face around so the crown is facing my hand on the right wrist, and the band will close the regular way, not upside down.

Thanks for letting me know both sizes are included, that should solve my problem to an extend.

Phew, happy to see i'm not the only one that is having a problem with this band. I was afraid i was getting clumsy all of a sudden ;-).

The reason the Stainless Steel watch would not be available in your market would be that with the Series 3, the Stainless Steel watch is only available on the (GPS + Cellular) models. So if your market does not offer cellular then you can't get the SS watch.

It sounds to me like you were trying on the M/L band on the 42 and the S/M band on the 38. I’m sure you can find a version that fits.
