That video is ridiculous! He is clearly trying to get attention and video views! How in the hell can he get deeeeep scratches like that after ONE day of normal use. The video looks like he was acting the whole time.

I'm just asking because I saw a certain video on YouTube and the guys screen was ridiculous after just a day of use. MacRumors doesn't allow us to post links but his username is "TechSmartt" and the name of the video is "My Apple Watch Sport is scratched". Seems to me like its clearly created just to get views, I just don't see how its possible to damage it that much in a single day. My watch is unfortunately still processing so I can't see for myself yet.

"i gotcha"

I think it may have brushed on some workout gear... ugh.

Does Apple have stock to do a same-day exchange for the SS model? I love the watch and it would pain me to wait another month.

Here is an annotated version of the pic above. It's only going to get worse :(
There's nothing there...

Maybe when replacement screens become a possibility the sapphire screens could be swapped onto even a Sport model? The case design in that respect looks no different.

You will need to return it within the 14 day period and order a SS model. Apple can assist with this if you call them.

Try costing the screen with a double glaze. I use Klasse all in one on my pebble followed by Klasse sealant glaze.

It may not repair bt it definitely helps prevent.

There is an abrasive cream called Polywatch that is very effective for removing superficial scratches in acrylic or mineral crystals of wristwatches. It may well be effective for the Apple Watch glass screen. If there is any kind of anti-reflective or other coating, however, it will be, well, compromised. Alternatively, some watch owners have found toothpaste to work to some degree as well.

Needless to say, I'm not advocating these methods for your watch nor will I take any responsibility for the results, good or bad.

Bump, any more thoughts from people who have had the chance to wear it for a while?

Heart breaking scratches on mine

Not decided what to do yet. Might get Applecare and use up one of the 2 £49 replacements for accidental damage you get

As far as I can make out any watches showing signs of scuffs/scratches are due to the oleophobic coating and not the actual glass/sapphire. There are threads about this. Owners of SS and Sports versions alike. Also apparently the scratches will become less visible with normal usage.

This is the reason I ponied up the $65 CAD for apple care +

I use the watch while playing sports so I'm assuming it'll be taking some abuse. If your screen gets scratched I wonder if that constitutes enough damage to claim on the 2 replacements you get under the plan

This early in the game, might as well get AppleCare and not use it for a few months, to cover eventual additional early damage you can get.

I know, it's a shame not to have a pristine condition Watch while the product is still hot, but it's still functional and those scratches are easier to deal with if you know you'll replace it at some point ;)

Ugh, I have been so scared to scratch mine. So far no problems but I have never worn a watch before. So nervous to bang it on something!

I'm experiencing the exact same thing. I bought my watch about a week ago but have barely used it until now, I bought it abroad.. I've been as careful as you can be and I know that nothing able to scratch the glass have ever touched it. (As a comparison, I've treated the paper bag you got from the Apple Store like a big piece of plutonium or something.) Even though, I can now see some scratches on the glass. Not happy. I got Apple Care when I bought it, should I use that or just accept that it's a watch and that it will be scratched? Or maybe, get a screen protector? ;)

These scratches look deliberate and not an accident.

I've had mine a week and don't have a mark on it. Yet.

I'll admit I live a pretty docile lifestyle. I've also been wearing glasses since the 3rd grade so I'm used to have scratch-able object on my body.

I haven't decided if I'll keep it, but will buy apple care if I do.

42 mm, space grey, aluminum.

I was thinking about paying £49 for applecare to cover scratches and dents.

But had an online chat and the T&C (for UK) https://www.apple.com/legal/sales-support/applecare/applecareplus/docs/applecareplus_uk_tc.html

see clause 5.1.6

shame because I would definitely take the cover out. I seem to remember in the dim and distant past this always being the case for ipods iphones etc with applecare.

I read the clause. It's very clear that minor damage won't be covered. I'm sure minor damage happens accidentally all the time. It's a dangerous world...

yes, I remember the old ipod classic and the expression 'you could look at it and it would scratch'

I cant help but feel that totally scatch proof screens should really be available now, across the line. But would this encourage customers to update later, as they would still look new.

I was very unimpressed with the body (edge) of the iphone 5 mine had terrible damage & I really look after my phones. And I remember the video showed Jonny Ive saying how state of the art the beveling was. It was as soft as putty.

I've always used a screen protector since the original iphone and ipod classic. Put them on right out the box (I use media devil) But I'm going to 'wing it' for the apple watch.

Come on people just enjoy the watch. You are likely to replace it in 2-3 years due to features on newer model. Plus that's what apple care is for. Collect as many scratches as you can then get a new watch after 1.9 years :) which by then you'd want to because the battery won't hold as much charge.

I had my Sport watch for a month now. No scratch on it yet and I don't particularly look after my stuff. I think people define 'being careful' or 'i baby my watch' differently. I mean, if you work in construction or do rock climbing, or are parents, there's only so much you can 'baby' your watch.

I work in an office, play Badminton and cycle. I don't need to baby my watch, in fact I want it to get some scuffs to make me look more active :)
