I am really torn here.

Any suggestion? I have a black stainless steel Apple watch and a gold Apple watch sport on hand.

Would I be better off with a silver sport or grey sport?

It's hard to justify the extra cost of the stainless Apple watch. So, I am leaning towards keeping the Apple watch sport.

I do like the gold+midnight blue combo on the sport. But the rubber band is kind of too casual to my taste. No metal band goes well with the gold color.

Would silver or grey be much more versatile?

The gold is really nice though. But I'm a teacher. Would it be too much? Too flashy?

Thanks!

Gold...

I say get the gold sport. The midnight blue is very nice and although the gold will be more limiting with band options I think it's one of the nicer looking sport models.

Not too flashy?

Haven't you ever seen an iPhone in gold? It is the same type of subtle anodized finish. It is NOT gold colored paint or anything like that.

Saw the gold watches in the Apple store yesterday and would agree they're very subtle and pretty nice. Still prefer my SGS though :)

I'm completely confused by this thread. If you have two watches already, what are you trying to decide?

When I originally went in to buy my Apple Watch, my intention was to get the Gold Sport watch with the midnight blue band. After trying several watches on, in both sizes, I felt that the 38mm was the right size for me. The Gold Sport in 38mm comes with the antique white band and looks great, but i didn't want that. I also wanted the bright green band since I heard rumors that it was going away like the iPhone 6 case did when the iPhone 6s came out. Given that I also felt that some of the other color bands I was interested in wouldn't look right with the Gold, I opened for the Space Gray Sport in 38mm. The black band that it comes with would be perfect for work, and I got the green band right away since the 38mm was $50 cheaper than the 42mm. The Space Gray will also go well with some of the other colored sports bands that I'd like to get such as the (Product) Red, White, Stone, and Midnight Blue. In addition the Space Gray compliments my Space Gray iPhone (with the bright green Apple iPhone case) and my Space Gray iPad mini. I am glad that i got the green band right away since they seem to have vanished from all three Apple Stores in my area.

looks nice!

I am pretty much set on 42mm. 38mm is just too small for my taste.

I got space black steel for $100 more than the sport gold, both with sport band. Hard decisions to make. A couple of days left to make up my mind.

the gold actually looks awesome with black sport band or leather loop, or just a cheap leather band. good with dark blue as well. other bright colors that you listed might clash with the gold, but i have no intention to get those.

space black is a beauty ... with any color.

which to keep or return/sell both?

Ah, I'd sell them both and get a regular 42mm SS. Its the most versatile... looks good with just about all the bands, and most of the aftermarket come with SS mounts. It can look sporty with a sporty band, but looks very dressy with a dressy band. And its the most durable in my opinion, because any scratches it picks up you can buff out... all the other surfaces will eventually show wear or nicks, and you can't do anything about it.

Here are the three that I have on my hand... 38mm seems so small in person. Looks OK in the picture though. The space black steel is my favorite, but it's $100 more than the Gold in 42mm. Any suggestions?

the steel does feel better, IMO

Maybe, but I got mine on sale ... I wish I could afford a new SS

I bought a mint used SS on eBay from a reputable commercial seller, with AppleCare+ included; and it saved me a couple hundred bucks.

OK... Final decision here. I've decided to go with 42mm.

The choice right now is between Space Black Apple Watch and Gold Apple Watch Sport.

The space black costs $100 more in my case.

If money is no issue, I'd go with the black. I think it is really sleek. The screen and frame blend so perfect.

The gold sport is nice too. But I do think the contrast between the screen and the gold frame is kind of catchy. Draw too much attention.

Ideally, I'd probably get a space grey sport for cheaper... But these two are the ones that I have.

Is the apple watch worth $100 more than the sport? I does feel nicer for sure.

How much of an issue is the $100 difference? I mean, if you can afford it, go with the one you like. It's something you wear every day, so IMO it is worth paying a little extra to get one you like the most.
