My Series 3 was supposed to be here today to replace my old Series 0, but when I opened the shipping box the first thing I noticed was that there was no shrink wrap on the watch box. They come wrapped, right? I opened the box and it was empty. No watch, no charger. The box was pretty obviously re-taped. I even had it held rather than having it delivered and left on my porch thinking it would be safer that way. Customer service is escalating my claim, so hopefully it gets figured out soon.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Where did you buy it from?
I got it through my insurance company, but it was shipped right from Apple. The box didn’t say Apple, it said AI for Apple Inc, but one quick google of the return address shows that’s an Apple shipping location.

I asked because the tape on the box didn't look very, well, Apple-y. In addition it's easy to put a return address on that looks kosher on a package.

Any chance you could take a picture of the return address part of the box just so folk here can potentially chime in on its validity?

Here’s the label. The original tape seems to be a paper-y brown tape, which I’ve seen on Apple stuff before. The packing tape is on top.

Not saying this was a contributing factor, but most if not all of Fedex destination/delivery hubs are operated by contracted drivers who wear Fedex garb and get paid pennies on the dollar compared to UPS drivers. Not as much skin in the game.

Paper tape I get, the transparent tape was what got me.

Indeed your are correct insofar as that address does seem to have been referenced but other folk in regards to Apple Watch deliveries.

It's a bit of a toughie I'll admit.

If (reading between the lines of your post) this was the case then that might explain that plastic transparent tape that's tingling my spider-sense.

That looks legit.

My guess is that somehow someone nicked it in en-route then retaped the box.

The plus to all this is that @Elenadc has the serial number so Apple should be able to track the device.

Or it could be I'm getting into conspiracy theories as I binge watch Absentia on Amazon Prime!

Ideally, they'll see that it was obviously re-taped, and send a new one out asap. And at the very least they can disable the stolen one with the serial, right? If not outright track it.

It is a good thing she was quick in reporting the theft. Hopefully, Apple will blacklist the watch from activation and the thief will get caught.

I think you see a rabbit hole you want to jump down. lol

This is true, I'm much more of a reader than a poster. I'll have to make more of an effort, lol.

Lurking on the forum is akin to seeing "Walden Pon" on the book shelf at Barnes & Noble, and vaguely knowing it has to do with natures or something or another.

Participating in the forum is akin to taking life by the hand, and slowly walking together, immersing yourself in the very essence of the forest whereby you see and learn much more than you could have had you only read the pages.

"I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived. I did not wish to live what was not life, living is so dear; nor did I wish to practice resignation, unless it was quite necessary. I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life, to live so sturdily and Spartan-like as to put to rout all that was not life, to cut a broad swath and shave close, to drive life into a corner, and reduce it to its lowest terms, and, if it proved to be mean, why then to get the whole and genuine meanness of it, and publish its meanness to the world; or if it were sublime, to know it by experience, and be able to give a true account of it in my next excursion." Having an empty box arrive must have been a shock. It's odd that the thief wouldn't have swiped the whole parcel, unless he/she didn't want to get caught with the box.

Coincidentally, I ordered a watch two weeks ago. It shipped UPS and I was tracking it along the way. Last Tuesday it arrived at a UPS waypoint but the movement stopped. On Monday I called Apple, they were great and shipped out a new replacement immediately. It's supposed to arrive by Friday, hopefully the box isn't empty :)

I suspect it'll all work out for you. Apple will investigate with the shipper but I'd bet they get a new one on the way to you without much fuss.

I read where this has happened to some iPhone owners where the iPhone has been stolen out of the box. Apple conducts their own investigation with the shipping company and then they will inform you when they complete their investigation and decide what’s the best method. Fed-Ex I personally don’t care for though.

They’re investigating my claim and apparently that takes between 10-15 business days. It’s gonna be awhile before I get my new watch...
