They’re investigating my claim and apparently that takes between 10-15 business days. It’s gonna be awhile before I get my new watch...

This is what I like about Apple though, once they complete the investigation with the carrier, they will make the situation right and for those who are honest, it usually works out accordingly.

What was the outcome? I’m assuming they replaced it but did they find out what happened?

It all worked out in the end, but it took several weeks of emails and phone calls. At one point I had two charges on my credit card: one for the original defective strap and one for the replacement which I never received. Apple eventually sorted it all out, sent me another strap which I did receive, removed the extra charge on my credit card and told me I could just keep the defective strap. They never told me what if anything they found out from their investigation.
I hope you have better luck, and I encourage you to keep after them until your case is resolved.

I don't see what the 15 days to investigate is all about. In actuality it can't be investigated. It was obviously taken by somebody at FedEx.

So if you track the package, it went from Apple to a Fed Ex pickup driver, to the depot, then maybe to another hub and then out for delivery. The large number of people that would have access to that package along the way makes it impossible to know who did it and where it happened.

So I'm not sure what they're investigating.

Anything can be, and certainly a criminal act should be, investigated. It would actually be inappropriate, corporate malfeasance by Apple and FedEx to not investigate. You never know what an investigation will uncover until you look into it.

Imagine law enforcement having that same mentality... “Well, it looks suspicious, but most missing persons cases go unsolved so we’re outta here.”

I think you misunderstand. I'm not saying they shouldn't investigate, I'm saying I don't believe they have the resources to properly investigate.

Part of the investigation likely is because of the timeframe it takes for Apple to contact FedEx managers and review of the shipping manifest. (I.e Responses, contacting Fed EX Supervisors, scans of the package, where it was, camera review). These types of investigations could easily go longer than 15 days when tracing a trail of an item out of a stolen package. Nonetheless, it’s an investigation that has to be completed before Apple could make a decision on how to move forward.

Actually if the watch was stolen at one of their shipping facilities, they have to review every camera angle to find out who handled the watch, scan times and dates, which employe scanned the watch, ect. I previously worked in loss prevention years back, and these type of internal investigations are not an overnight process. They take time and resources for the best decision to be made.

Still waiting for everything to get figured out. Apparently Apple sent Fedex to pick up the empty box? No one told me they were coming and Fedex was sent to the Walgreens that held the package for me, so we’re still working that out. At this point I’m planning on canceling the order as soon as they’ll let me and ordering direct from Apple.

Very frustrating having to wait almost a month to get your new WATCH. Hopefully, it gets worked out sooner than later.

I can say, with a fair amount of certainty, not many of us would do very well waiting as long as you have for a new WATCH.

Just curious why Apple would want the empty box? Unless they want to inspect it to make sure The box that you photographed and sent to them is the actual box the Apple Watch arrived in.

There could be many reasons. They would certainly try to follow the chain of custody from Apple to FedEx to you, and the type of box used could be a clue to that.

Right, but that doesn’t explain why they want the original box in their possession other than to confirm its their box shipped from their facility. That was my prior point.

No idea. This is all being filtered through the insurance company, then through low level phone support people. Not bashing them, I work phone support too, but they have no idea what's going on. It almost sounds like Apple has been misinformed on the whole thing, the Fedex guy said his call tag was for a damaged device. All in all, it's a huge mess.

I'm sorry to hear this isn't going smoothly for you, but I'm not surprised. It could be that Apple is attempting to handle a non-standard situation with a standard procedure, namely exchanging a defective item for a new one. This would require the return of the defective item, or in your case the empty box. This is messed up for sure. You should try to move up the support chain and eliminate some of the filters.

That would’ve been nice, I assume they haven’t because it was purchased through the insurance company. I’m done with them honestly. I’m re-ordering elsewhere and canceling everything with the insurance company.

Good for you!

Hope it works out, you have been a far better trouper that I would have been!

Thanks! I'm even going in a completely different direction with the watch too, lol. I had originally ordered a Gold 38mm with GPS, but after thinking about it I'm going with Silver 42mm with Cellular. So it's working out for the best.

Do the boxes have identifying info such as serial numbers?

Yes. The Apple Watch boxes (The actual cardboard shell box) actually have serial numbers with a sticker on The bottom of the base of the box with a scan barcode. I’m assuming Apple wants the box to see if they can track the serial number to make sure it came from their shipping facility and not from some other retailer location/online site.
