It's funny you use this analogy because I recently worked on a project with Accenture where I had to recreate the checkout wheel for them. It was mind boggling. DON'T YOU DO THIS FOR A LIVING?!
If I’m honest I’m not sure what a checkout wheel is or whether you’re being sarky or not.

I’m not even sure if your last capitalised sentence, (despite the question mark), is a question or a statement.

The price of band is literally roberry and misusing people.frankly I'm loosing my respect for Apple.I don't carewhat some sheep like fanboys will say but as much as I love Macs and despite my preference towards iOS,I found the watch absolutely rubbish and the new Macbook was also terrible.
they keep doing that(focusing on design and fashion and sacrificing functionality) and I will switch.and I'm sure a big number if fans will do the sane.

It's not robbery when somebody CHOOSES to spend their money on something that they don't have to.

A bag of potato chips costs $3. It takes about 5 potatoes at 20 cents each to make a bag of chips. That's $1 worth of potatoes. And they charge $3. That's a 300% profit! Is that robbery too?

Pretty much everything you look at is the same. A wooden chair costs $50, yet the price of it's wood is only about $4. A plastic chair costs $10, yet the price of it's plastic is less than 50 cents.

The materials that a product is made out of are not the primary cost to make something.

Exactly. You're buying more than raw materials.

Lots of people don't get this: I've seen comments from users who cannot get their minds around why you'd buy an iPhone when you can get more a powerful processor in another phone.

You're not buying a bag of parts. And if you were, Apple is buying hundreds of thousands of parts so can get them cheaper than you anyway.

You must be brain damaged to buy extra bands from apple when the third party market is capable of offering the same thing for a lot less money. Yes, the same ****ing thing, even with the same or superior quality. What do you think? That Apple just become the best blacksmith and leathersmith in the world? Nope! Their band are nice and high quality as everything from Apple but nothing apart from the lable makes them special or exclusive. We are just months away from other premium brands like Coach, Prada, Gucci, etc. start offering high-quality bands for the Apple Watch, like the other accesories they are now selling like iPhone/iPad cases.

This is the problem. I think Apple know exactly how much crap their fans will bear and yet still buy their goods. This they have down to a tee.

It’s like when your employer implements something awful. Most will stay and say nothing. Some will stay and say something. Few will leave, and for those that do there are always plenty to replace them.

It’s about recognising where things are at before things start to go downhill.

Most of that has been done in part already. I’d suggest the cost is a lot less than you think. The cost of R&D for Apple as a whole may be high but for this one item, no.

Hole spacing, really?

When Ford design a new car, they already know how an engine works, how many wheels it needs and how many people have to get in it. They know all this from back in 1908. They component share, platform share and tool share. They don’t throw out all teh production gear when they stop making it, it actually gets cheaper and easier assuming they didn’t balls it up the first time around.
Companies tell you rubbish like that so they can rape your wallet.

How many Smart Watches have Apple made prior to the Apple Watch?

…and there they were up in arms about the price of petrol when you could take the bus or cycle/walk, or even stay in.

Seriously, they have designed boxes before, they don;t have to employ a whole tema of new people and buy new computers to get the watch made. The vast majority of the knowledge is already there.
They already had the touch screen etc etc.

Why are you here Ben? You only ever post negative stuff about Apple.

My post on the rumoured 264 PPI of the 13" iPad:

Amazing!

Text will be awesomely crisp. And watching video will be seriously immersive. What's the equivalent tv screen size of a 13" iPad held at arm's length? Must be pretty big. Watching Supernatural and The Walking Dead on my 10" iPad is scary enough.

Is that negative enough for you?

Yeah but the S1 was a step forward: an entire computer architecture on a single chip. That's an industry first.

I know hardware is Apples strong point, but it still required work to achieve. :)

You just don't have no clue at all.

Don't buy a Breitling, Panerai, AP, etc etc. Good quality bands are expensive. The stainless band is a work of art.
I have the link band, and I totally agree. When I went into the store, I had no plan to spend money on the band, but after trying it on, my wallet could not talk me out of it, no matter how loud it screamed.

I have no regrets, just debts ;)

The latest data from Slice Intelligence, a digital commerce research firm that tracks email receipts, estimates Apple Watch sales at 2.79 million in the United States nearly two months after the wrist-worn device launched, according to Reuters. Slice Intelligence previously estimated 1 million Apple Watch pre-orders on April 10 and 2.5 million orders processed through late May.

The report claims that about 17 percent of those Apple Watch customers proceed to spend hundreds of dollars on extra bands for the smartwatch, enabling Apple to make a profitable double dip into customers' wallets. While the Sports Band starts at $49, for example, technology research firm IHS estimates the 38mm fluoroelastomer band costs Apple just $2.05 to make.

The estimate does not include the cost of packaging and shipping, and the bill of materials may in fact be slightly more expensive, but it remains clear that Apple has a significant profit margin on spare bands. Apple also sells the Classic Buckle, Milanese Loop and Leather Loop retail for $149, Modern Buckle for $249 and Link Bracelet for $449 through the Apple Online Store.Apple Watch in-store reservations at Apple Stores began earlier this week ahead of the wrist-worn device's second wave launch in Italy, Mexico, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland and Taiwan on June 26. A limited selection of Apple Watch models will be available at 10 Corso Como in Milan, BOONTHESHOP Cheongdam in Seoul and Malmaison by The Hour Glass in Singapore.

No, it isn't. All it is is a System in Package. As the Wikipedia page shows, there's actually quite a few manufacturers who make them. Apple chose Samsung this time.

I have had my sports band for a month or so and I really like it. Referring to it as a "rubber band" is an oversimplification. It's a rubber band that I trust to hold my watch on my wrist securely without irritating my sensitive skin. Any other watch I have had has irritated my wrist in one way or another. So no, $50 does not feel too expensive. I would like a navy or earth tone band to go with other outfits, I Currently only have a black "rubber band," but I would gladly drop $50 on one. Anyone that is upset about the markup has never worked in jewelry.
