Your “everything on” chart is for GPS time. If you’re going to use the Garmin battery estimated at least use the smartwatch tableGarmin does not have longer battery life. Not if it’s doing all the same functions as an Apple Watch. You’d get barely a day out of it with everything “on”.
This was just discussed the other day.
That's just objectively false. My 970 lasts 4-5 days with all the settings in, including pulse Ox. Brightness is on medium and AOD is on too. If I turn the AOD off, it goes up to 15.Garmin does not have longer battery life. Not if it’s doing all the same functions as an Apple Watch. You’d get barely a day out of it with everything “on”.

“Massive” new upgrades over UW1. 🤦🤡 No sir, you won’t be getting that and was a waste doing that. 😆Definitely getting it. Sold my UW1 earlier this year, so this one should have massive new upgrades for me.
Yep, BP is the one thing that might get me to buy. As you said, we'll see what it can really do in a few days.Blood pressure monitoring is the only feature of interest for me, but it is vague again in this article so I'll wait and see what Apple actually announces.
The other 7 reasons - meh for me
Non-issue. Just charge the thing when you shower. Hopefully you're doing that every day or at least every other day. I've sat by people who don't shower regularly and it is not pleasant. Please give us longer battery life to compete with Garmin. I'd like to only need to charge every 3-4 days instead of every other day.
11088 pixels more*So what do we get:
- a larger screen… 10 pixels more actually.
- a new chip.. the same as last year but with an incremented name.
- blood pressure monitoring.. that actually doesn’t tell you your blood pressure.. and maybe it doesn’t come.
- a faster refresh rate.. only to see the seconds tick.
- 5g connectivity.. but there’s no meaningful data rate use case on the AWU.
- satellite connectivity.. that you have anyway on your phone.
- same price! ..or higher?
Thank you Tim!
I wanted an Ultra when it was released... then the 2 came and I still held out. It might be time for me to jump on board. I currently have the AWS7 (GPS+cellular 45mm) and I do enjoy it. I've only used it a few times for sleep tracking and want to use it more for that so maybe with the Ultra 3 I'll start wearing my watch to sleep.
The new Garmins - Fenix 8 pro series, the batteries on them are decreasing because of LTE. Even their new 51mm with microled screen is only 4 days of battery. Please give us longer battery life to compete with Garmin. I'd like to only need to charge every 3-4 days instead of every other day.
The Blood pressure monitoring is something people Need. Sorry to say, but I doubt it works without a real pressure measuring. The only thing that would make me upgrade my 2 years old AWU2 îs blood pressure monitoring.
But I don't think that's coming sooner than next year.

I am into year 3 with mine, still 89% battery health, and can use my blood ox w/o fear of it being sued into being deactivated. The rest is not enough reason to update. I also just discovered that changing a few settings in Accessibility that I, too, have Double-tap capability AND can save $800+, which I will happily use to buy a Garmin when my AWU1 has used up all the runway.Into year 4 with my OG Ultra it is then…
