Ive I go traditional watch, I'll likely go something more minimalist and Clean lines. any suggestions?
My grandpa wore a Timex Easy Reader - and believe it or not, I’ve seen them on people here in Northern California - assuming you’re good with an analog watch face.

One thing you’ll notice going from an Apple Watch - it won’t keep time as good (mine loses minutes per month) and if you travel a lot, get used to setting your watch soon as you get off the plane.

But other than that, it’s got a good following.

Anyone know if there's a published table somewhere that shows what version of the SoC each Series or Ultra version is using?

I guess another question I have is would the UW4 be using a new SoC design or would it be using an existing one? I guess we won't know for sure until it comes out.... ?

(When the UW1 came out, I probably did not know that it uses the same SoC design as the Series 6 which was already 2 years old at that time! I don't think it would have meant much for me at that time either, but NOW I understand that it can matter!!!)

MacTracker. Sometimes it takes them a little bit to update after new hardware comes out, but they catalog it all. Free app.

its not that its not going to work but we have all had Apple Watches that fall out of sync because of a software update not being performed. its how I know there is an Apple Watch update that for some reason (I call it crap design from a company that used to take pride in its work..) didn't install that night/weekend or even a few days out. I am not going to baby sit a device any more. If you as a company cannot create a stable, easy to use, environment then the flip phone and a Casio calculator watch are in my future.
For those bootlickers out there, FYI what is currently out ... iOS 26.... is crap its beta and should have never left Cupertino... I'm tired of spending $1,200 on a device thats only a year old and it feeling like it's six years old. It over heats, lags constantly, and ive reinstalled the OS more times than an end consumer should..
I can't take any of this serious.

It’s popular to hate on Apple. I miss the Macrumors of 2011 closer to when I joined - a place to enjoy Apple products with other Apple owners. Now it’s super popular to hate on Apple on an Apple centric forum, interestingly enough.

And agreed, I haven’t experienced any of this - older watches maintain their time and sync really well, amazingly well, despite being almost 10 years old (in my experience). They do their job well. And don’t get me started on iOS 26 - it made my 15 Pro Max feel lightly fast despite all the UI glass stuff. Could things be more bug free? Sure but the world could also be a more perfect place too. lol.

One thing I tell people like this is - dip your toes in the pond across the way - buy an Android phone, buy a Garmin watch, or at least ask to borrow one and give it a try - you might like it! Every company has their pluses and minuses. Apple ain’t perfect, but there’s a reason why many millions of people use it - myself included.

Nothing is better than trying something with your own hands. If I don’t like something, I move on and improve my life.

I don't think that's comparing superiority, rather than indicating what line is better for what kind of sport.

I enumerated several areas where the Garmin platform is flatly superior, both in depth and breadth of capabilities. Many of those areas are sport-independent. Your response is that you don't care about those specific things so that means the superiority isn't real.

The reality is, the Apple platform is palpably behind Garmin when it comes to health, fitness, and activity tracking.

As I said, I don't have a dog in this fight. My daily wear watch is Apple because Apple's smartwatch features are significantly better than Garmin's. Doesn't change the fact that Garmin has been doing fitness longer, understands the data better, and has more features and better quality analysis than even third-party apps have brought to the Apple ecosystem.

I'd recommend downloading the app "Mactracker", available for both macOS and iOS (maybe iPadOS too). It lists everything Apple has made, and their major (and many minor) specs.

I am debating whether I should abandon Apple Watch and get the Garmin Fenix 9 when it comes out. Any thoughts?
Do it. I switched to Garmin 3 years ago after owning 2 Apple Watches. Haven’t looked back. Far superior battery life, style, fitness and workout features and customisation.

If I had a nickel for every time someone estimated someone else's software changes as being "no trouble", or "trivial", I'd be rich.
Well, seeing as that’s what they are doing for the EU markets, I stand by my hyperbole. I wish you much wealth picking up all those nickels.

I have an UW1. Firstly, because I usually keep Apple products for a few years. Also, the upgrades offered on UW2 and UW3 were pretty modest. So, I think the earlier post could be true...I think there will be a relative jump in sales of UW4, mostly so customers can get os27. I don't want to upgrade, but I probably will. I hope UW4 gets enough changes, in addition to AI stuff, to make the purchase of a new watch feel worth it.

Very little ... How many people are even still running on UW1.

I'm a habitual upgrader and still on UW1 because the 2 and 3 offered virtually no reason to upgrade from UW1. Plus, the UW1 still supports the blood oxygen feature that Apple had to remove from the newer watches starting in 2024.

I'll update this year to stay current on watchOS, and hoping the hardware announced this year makes the upgrade worthwhile for other reasons also.
