Not much of an issue.
This can easily be fixed with a software update. And users can increase the brightness...
Sounds like you haven’t experienced this problem.

I have, and you cannot fix it by increasing brightness.

This is happening on the AWU2 that I just got on Friday. I wore it and my Series 7, and the doesnt have the issue but the AWU2 does. Both are on watchOS 10.

Not to discount this issue...but do people know how eyes work? If you move from a bright room to a dark room, you aren't going to see dim lights for a few seconds/minutes as your eyes acclimate to the new brightness levels. I also suspect people could be looking at max brightness iPhones or a TV in dark rooms, then looking at a 1/2 nit watch display.

Just don't want these people to force apple to ruin my 2 nit night mode which is one of my favorite ultra features.
I don’t know how eyes work, so I didn’t find your comment condescending in the least.

But wearing my new AWU2 and my old Series 7 at the same time, the U2 has the problem and the 7 does not - never did. Both are running watchOS 10.

Maybe it’s just how my eyes work?

Mine doesn’t have this gap. However, mine had a slight blemish on the crystal right out of the box. It can’t be wiped off, it’s permanent.

In your case and mine, it’s poor quality control.
There will always be a small percentage of manufacturing defects, never in the history of manufacturing has there been a 100% success rate. Poor QC is quite a stretch for this sample size.

so glad I did not fall for it. very happy with my Garmin Instinct watch. no touchscreen ********.

I notice that garmin users, much like vegans, feel a strange need to let everyone know not only that they are garmin users/vegans, but that they are so much happier than everyone around them about it (and they really really are not trying to hard too be convincing) and then close with a line hinting at their disapproval of everyone around them. It sure is boring.

Apple should definitely give the end-users proper control over this. I understand that Apple wants their batteries to last a certain amount of time, but *gasp* amazingly the end-user is capable of determining when their device runs out of charge (hint to Apple devs; you see, it works like this: When the battery runs out of charge on one of the devices you sell, it shuts off. Making it very clear that the battery is out of charge, and making it easy for the end-user to figure out they are using more power than the battery can provide in any given period of time.) I use the "bring up the Phone Dialer" every single day because my Apple Watch absolutely refuses to be as bright as I want it to be any other way. And yet I've never once ran it out of battery life. Why? Because I know, better than Apple does, what my usage scenario is. Not giving end-users full control over a basic function such as screen brightness is utter arrogance on the part of Apple. Give us a "min brightness" and "max brightness" and be done with it, instead of assuming you know better, when you don't.

What is Apple doing? Its every day there is another issue with software and/or hardware. It’s really discouraging to see this.

My display is just fine in low light. I love how the screen turns red like that.

I upgraded from a Series 7 and am totally happy with the Ultra 2.

For what it’s worth, the auto brightness on my ultra 2 seemed to act a bit weird with iOS 10.0.1 / 10.0.2 - sometimes it would get darker on wrist up instead of brighter, and darken itself to an unreadable level but go brighter on wrist down.

The good news is that I haven’t experienced any similar issues in watchOS 10.1 beta - so it’s possible that it’s already been fixed.

You can tape to wake and/or roll the crown. But I thought there was a setting where additional rolling of the crown would brighten it further, a sort of manual override. (Until display sleeps again)

I haven’t been able to find that setting.

Yeah I would say on my Ultra 1 that is looks better on 10.1 than previous 10 releases also.
