So I am curious, How many of you that have ordered the Apple Watch Ultra are NOT the target buyer that Apple is aiming this watch towards, and if that is you, what was the reason you purchased?

I do not work out, nor hike, nor dive, etc lol, so its hard for me to justify going from my SS Series 7 to the Ultra but curious on those who have that are like me, and do not fall into Apples target buyer for this one.

I'm in that category. I have a SS Series 4, so time to upgrade anyway. Big wrists mean a big watch is OK, and has perks like bigger battery and 2000 nit screen.

I think Apple just created that marketing storyline but in reality this is just a very durable Apple Watch with the brightest screen and best battery life. A ton of people are going to buy the Ultra because it's the very best of what an Apple Watch can offer. If you want to do something extreme with it, great. But otherwise this is just a top of line Apple Watch and people understand that.

I ordered the Ultra but I’m no extreme athlete. Current SBSS Hermes S7 owner.

Several reasons why I purchased:
1. Battery life.
2. Action button. Can’t hurt to have an extra customizable button at my disposal.
3. Probably in the minority but I like how it looks. The others look bland next to it now.
4. Flat screen, protected screen. Not a fan of the curved edges.
5. Brighter screen.
6. Only titanium option and according to Apple (aerospace grade 4), it’s the strongest of the non alloy titanium grades.
7. Great value for what you’re getting compared to the SS S8
8. Larger screen. While not much larger than the S8, it is still larger. My S7 feels large already so this will only be better.
9. Dual speaker.

I’m sure there are other I can’t think of at the moment. Maybe the siren might be useful.

The above sums it up to me. I do scuba dive maybe twice a year but do not know it it would replace my dive computer.

‘’When I saw the were not offering a space black titanium DLC coat series 8, I know the ultra wa for me! Hope they do a DLC coated Ultra next year.

Curious, are you keeping your SBSS Heremes?

Seems like that + Ultra would be the best of both worlds. A nice watch for more formal settings and a more rugged watch for active use.

There are Apple's advertised target buyers and Apple's expected target buyers. The expected buyers include all the people who still want an "edition" version in titanium. The series 8 selection is quite limited now.

Nah, I do a yearly upgrade and use the funds from the sale of the previous model to help pay for the newly released one. I don’t attend many formal events and I’m pretty sure the Ultra with the appropriate band could look good in a business type suit. Now a tux is a different story but I’d probably still rock it to a wedding lol. Can’t really tell until it’s in my hands.

I am going to the Apple Store tomorrow to collect the S8 I have ordered.
I will definitely be taking a look at the Ultra and I may reconsider if I like the look and feel.
The only activity that I currently use my watch for is outdoor walking.

I would bet the Ultra won't be in stores until the 23rd when it launches.

Well I’m not sure if I would be that extreme athlete or not, but my hiking consists hiking to the kitchen to the fridge to get a good cold beer. Maybe while out camping to get up and hike to the cooler to get a beer. Then after all the hiking trips to either the fridge or the cooler I have to hike my drunk butt up the stairs of my travel trailer to my bed to pass out.
So in reality I do some hiking, biking and a lot of swimming while at the lake every weekend, I don’t really need the Ultra but I bought it cause I can.

The target market is anybody who can afford it. 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂ It’s the best Apple Watch, ignoring size and price.

Apple’s job is to convince these people that this is how they want to spend their money. People who become convinced then need to decide whether they mind the larger size (or even welcome it).

Personally, I can afford it, so I’m the target market.
However, it would be too big on my wrist, and I don’t think it’s worth spending this much money on disposable tech when the S8 serves all my needs, and even the SE2 would serve me well enough. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I have series 5 aluminum screen has a black and blue splotch now. Always Wanted an AW with nicer Materials and sapphire glass, never justified price for only the materials, now we have actual functional difference. my number one prime issue with the Apple Watch is battery life, battery life is worth it to me when combined with materials. I’m absolutely not going, diving climbing a mountain, jumping deep into the water or anything like that. I haven’t made a decision yet but that’s where I’m leaning. The added sensors mics speakers flat screen durability are all comfort inducing. I think I’d prob try to keep it 5 years vs usual 3 and plan and getting the battery replaced year 3. At 1k this would have been a no way but this is basically stainless steel price for a more durable and long lasting watch.

Also the AW is a device that should last a long time I’m sorta happy with slower pace of changed but ultra is a big change so it would feel like more of an upgrade. I am disappointing we didn’t get a more power efficient SOC. Could have used the efficiency cores on A15 under clocked to A13 ex perf.

Will say I have been using a watch 5 pro from Samsung and while materials are decent I am shocked at how much less useful it is to me. How frustrating the interface can be. It’s kludge everywhere you look. It’s also making me think the cost is worth it.

If only target market buys the Watch Ultra, apple would be very very unhappy. It would be discontinued like the mini.

Target market is people who want to drop $800 on a watch that’ll lose 1/2 of its value in a year like me!
