There's a lot to like in the Ultra, but for me of the small wrist, the size (and to a lesser degree, shorter battery life than my Garmin watches) currently would make it a non-starter for me if I had an iPhone to mate it to.
YepSo its not like the phones? when they quote 49MM they are talking about the entire size of the watch not just the screen?
Thank you! I was afraid I was the only one who thought it looks like garbage.
Between that and losing Dieter Bohn, they've taken a serious step backwards, IMO.I was insulted. I know it might be silly to say, but that's how I felt. Deleted them from my daily read list.
Switch to Gizmodo and Engadget just to catch any non apple big news stuff.
If The Verge does not admit their cluster fork and change back, they are going to lose more and more people every month.
well I watched iJustines video and it already looks ridiculous on her wrist within the first 5 seconds of her video
Me too I’m only getting it for better battery, larger screen and the redesign -I still feel 45mm is too small for a watch. This Apple Watch Ultra is the most compelling upgrade. I can’t wait till I get my AW Ultra on Friday.
I think as you say there are probably a few actions capable from HOME that can be assigned, and then within various APP’s there are probably similarly a FEW actions that can be assigned based on different physical actions.. press, double press, press hold short, press hold long, etc. There also seem to be options for DUAL BUTTON actions, so Action button PLUS main crown, or secondary button TOGETHER enable additional configurable options.Ok that Action Button can be assigned to only one action? Can you use double press or long press to assign additional actions? I've only watched MKBHD so maybe I need to keep watching.
It looks stunning. (and that's my opinion, not trying to make anyone agreeing with me or change their minds).Yes, It looks stunningly too good. Apple nailed it. Apple has been working on this Apple Watch for a long time now. With this AW you are getting more brightness, more battery life, and packed with other new features. What's there not to love and what else can you ask for? Also see my response from yesterday as well, please. This is not a small upgrade like last year going from AW S6 to AW S7. This is more compelling.
Personally, I don't mind it. I say that as someone who doesn't own and probably never will own a 'smart watch' but instead I focus on aesthetically eccentric watches. Some of my watches include:The ugly bulge that sticks out, the orange action button, and the huge bezels are a turnoff to me. When they fix that, I'll consider buying.
Ridiculous to you maybe. Wether you like the size of the watch or not is highly subjective. I love big watches. The bigger the better!well I watched iJustines video and it already looks ridiculous on her wrist within the first 5 seconds of her video
If it's true aerospace-grade (grade 5) Titanium it should be pretty tough, but will still scratch.I’m interested to see a longer term review or a more “rugged” review, as I can’t actually believe it’s raw Ti without a coating. Will get wrecked surely.
Land rovers are for pretenders. Elite wannabes waste the amazing German engineering of the G-wagon getting groceries. The Apple Watch Ultra. Aimed at people who undertake 'extreme' activities, but like Land Rovers which mostly only go off-road when they're parked on the pavement opposite Tarquin's primary school 100yds from his house, it will mainly be used as a fashion-accessory.
Ah, no to all of these. If I'm going to wear a conventional watch I'll get watch used by Japanese railway companies. But getting back on topic, if you don't need the rugged style of the Apple Watch Ultra, just get an Apple Watch Series 8.Personally, I don't mind it. I say that as someone who doesn't own and probably never will own a 'smart watch' but instead I focus on aesthetically eccentric watches. Some of my watches include:

Given that, those little quirks on the Apple watch honestly don't bother me, lol.
You are missing the point of rugged designed watch...The ugly bulge that sticks out, the orange action button, and the huge bezels are a turnoff to me. When they fix that, I'll consider buying.
It has temperature sensors. It measure the temperature of water when diving.I wish the ability to measure your temperature had been added at least to the Ultra. I mean that guy covered in snow in the video, might want to take his temperature...
