There's a lot to like in the Ultra, but for me of the small wrist, the size (and to a lesser degree, shorter battery life than my Garmin watches) currently would make it a non-starter for me if I had an iPhone to mate it to.

Thank you! I was afraid I was the only one who thought it looks like garbage.

I was insulted. I know it might be silly to say, but that's how I felt. Deleted them from my daily read list.

Switch to Gizmodo and Engadget just to catch any non apple big news stuff.

If The Verge does not admit their cluster fork and change back, they are going to lose more and more people every month.

Between that and losing Dieter Bohn, they've taken a serious step backwards, IMO.

well I watched iJustines video and it already looks ridiculous on her wrist within the first 5 seconds of her video

But after she strapped it around a thigh, neck and then her waist, it blended right into magical perfection.
  • Ideal belt or sash replacement.
  • Ideal neck adornment.
  • Ideal garter replacement.
All ;)

Ok that Action Button can be assigned to only one action? Can you use double press or long press to assign additional actions? I've only watched MKBHD so maybe I need to keep watching.
I think as you say there are probably a few actions capable from HOME that can be assigned, and then within various APP’s there are probably similarly a FEW actions that can be assigned based on different physical actions.. press, double press, press hold short, press hold long, etc. There also seem to be options for DUAL BUTTON actions, so Action button PLUS main crown, or secondary button TOGETHER enable additional configurable options.

At some point it will get complicated for some users but its a step in the right direction.

Yes, It looks stunningly too good. Apple nailed it. Apple has been working on this Apple Watch for a long time now. With this AW you are getting more brightness, more battery life, and packed with other new features. What's there not to love and what else can you ask for? Also see my response from yesterday as well, please. This is not a small upgrade like last year going from AW S6 to AW S7. This is more compelling.

It looks stunning. (and that's my opinion, not trying to make anyone agreeing with me or change their minds).

No question that it's a big watch but, I am very impressed with what've seen so far and cannot wait to have it on Friday.

I’m interested to see a longer term review or a more “rugged” review, as I can’t actually believe it’s raw Ti without a coating. Will get wrecked surely.

It's been my opinion all along.

It won't dent Garmin, this is for people who already have or want Apple watches and this time a bigger/rugged/manly option has been presented.

But the thing in itself is another Apple smartwatch in need of daily charging, with a few extra features.

Garmin is for hiking and taking training seriously, Apple Watch (including Ultra) is for apps, cards, pretty animations etc.

Most of these reviews are useless. It’s not a garmin killer because of recovery metrics? How was the diving computer? Did you take it on an ultramarathon? Did you go hiking for 20 miles in the middle of nowhere and test the compass and other features? A 20 min run? How do these people review the garmin- they don’t do anything the watch is aimed at.

Sure… the majority of people who get the watch are aspirational (like me) but these people are not qualified to comment on it’s usefulness.

Love the body design, more powerful mic/speakers, action button, and battery but 49mm is obnoxiously large. Hopefully they make a 44 or 41 option for the refresh

The ugly bulge that sticks out, the orange action button, and the huge bezels are a turnoff to me. When they fix that, I'll consider buying.
Personally, I don't mind it. I say that as someone who doesn't own and probably never will own a 'smart watch' but instead I focus on aesthetically eccentric watches. Some of my watches include:

Given that, those little quirks on the Apple watch honestly don't bother me, lol.

Love everything about the Watch Ultra. For my needs, it'll be a nice upgrade.

For all who have ordered with Sept 23rd delivery dates-any of you still showing Preparing to Ship? I even pulled up UPS app and there is a tracking number that shows but it says no details can be provided at this time. Hoping for a Friday delivery still!

The Apple Watch Ultra. Aimed at people who undertake 'extreme' activities, but like Land Rovers which mostly only go off-road when they're parked on the pavement opposite Tarquin's primary school 100yds from his house, it will mainly be used as a fashion-accessory.
Land rovers are for pretenders. Elite wannabes waste the amazing German engineering of the G-wagon getting groceries.

Ah, no to all of these. If I'm going to wear a conventional watch I'll get watch used by Japanese railway companies. But getting back on topic, if you don't need the rugged style of the Apple Watch Ultra, just get an Apple Watch Series 8.

I wish the ability to measure your temperature had been added at least to the Ultra. I mean that guy covered in snow in the video, might want to take his temperature...
It has temperature sensors. It measure the temperature of water when diving.

The only improvements I would like to see are a domed sapphire crystal and a titanium bracelet.
Still all in all a solid upgrade.
