Saw the 8 Ultra, 45, 41 and SE yesterday in a real Apple shop.

The Ultra certainly looked nice in its own way - but far too large for me as an everyday item.

The 45 looked fine, with the 41 being a touch small. But can't justify the price ratchet from £339 (Apple refurb) to £449 (Apple full price) for what amounts to little more than the temperature sensor.

Can we all agree that having ANY electronic device with exposed corners of glass and not metal that are going to be the first part to be touched when it falls is just a disgusting trick for planned obsolescence?
Apple is doing what should become the bare minimum here.

I am surprised no one has noticed this.
Can someone explain to me why there are 6 seconds between each 5 seconds on the Apple Watch ultra?

I tweeted apple support and still no answer:

Gorilla glass scratches but does not shatter easily, where sapphire glass does not scratch, but shatters more easily. It is a deliberate choice by Apple, as the aluminium watches are/were foreseen for working out, and the steel versions more as dress watches.
That was the initial reasoning, however as shown in the newer apple watches and the Ultra the Sapphire glass is now much more shatter proof too. This was shown in this very video.

Makes me think apple care is certainly not needed for this Watch. Looks like it can take some beating and does t make any difference.

It seems like these YouTubers want to prove Apple wrong.

This Apple Watch Ultra has been through hell. I don't understand what these YouTubers are trying to prove. It's clear that Apple Watch Ultra is "rugged", & "durable".
I can’t watch these videos. All that work and resources to make a wonderful piece of tech and somebody just smashes it to bits or blowtorches it or whatever these people do…nah, not for me.

I will never scuba dive and I’ll never run across the dessert (not by choice, anyway. Zombie apocalypse might motivate me, though). But I am super clumsy and I do a lot of manual work, so I wish I could wear this beast.

Ironically, I’m small-boned, so mega donut consumption would be the only way I could get a wrist wide enough for this Watch. I somehow don’t think that’s an outcome Tim Cook envisioned!

Maybe they will redesign the regular watch to be even more durable for clumsy little potatoes like me. I need it to survive without a scratch multiple collisions against filing cabinets and door frames, for starters.

Those are compass degree markings, not seconds. The major ticks are 5 degrees, and the minor ticks are 1 degree. But it is confusing having minutes/seconds overlaid on degree markings
the seconds are running on that dial .. I double checked, I selected minutes dial on the wayfinder watch face not the compass.

The only way to exchange to band was return everything back to Apple…..what?

Agreed this is a very stupid part of the Apple return process. I had an Apple TV that had a faulty remote, only option was to return the whole box. With the logistics prowess that Apple has, one would think that they have the ability to just send components to a client. Given that the returned Apple Watch likely has to either get refurbished or go through a full QA process, one would think that they could just send you a band (since those are less likely to be out of stock).

Yup. But I’m guessing it also has to do with the flat design and raised bezels.
