Ugly some say.... Maybe, i guess it is all about what everyone likes. Is it a thing of beauty? Maybe not, but its different and i appreciate the change after having every single Apple Watch since their release.
My thoughts exactly. It IS a bit odd looking, but that's why I like it. The Series 8 and its predecessors have always seemed a little bland and uninspired to me.

Guessing no colors because it would get scratched up easier

Assuming the current titanium is anodized, adding colors would not impact scratch resistance noticeably. I've got anodized titanium pens that are several years old, get tossed around and have no scratches.

Thanks for this! I use Komoot regularly but really wish it showed maps on the Watch, which are way more intuitive to me than the "go left in 130m" instructions. Especially since GPS isn't entirely reliable in more remote areas I prefer to have a visual reference of what my devices think is my current position. Looks like WorkOutDoors might fit the bill, I'll give it a shot.

Yes, the Komoot app for the Apple Watch is almost useless. So the thing is, you have to plan the route with Komoot, preferably with the iOS app, export the GPX directly to the WorkOutdoors app and transfer it to the Apple Watch. It’s very quick and simple. Also you can download maps dire to the Apple Watch in case there is no internet.

Looking forward to getting mine Friday, I've upgrade yearly since the Series 0 so it's nice to have something with a different design. The regular watch apart from a slightly larger screen and rounding of the corners has not changed since the first one in 2015. Same overall shape, same crown, same side button and and case design.

It's finally nice to have something that actually looks different after 7yrs, plus as I have always upgraded yearly with the SS models, this one is a no brainer, far more features, far longer battery life for just £70 more.

This was was marketed towards me.

I am a triathlete, a long distance runner, a hiker.

Yet this watch wasn’t MADE for me.
I wasn’t missing an action button.

I am still missing multi day battery life.
Built in maps when no cellular is available.
Pairing to my ant+ or Bluetooth sensors
Customizations of data screens

So if anyone says this is a replacement of their garmin watch it’s clearly not.

Sorry apple. Nice try.

Well, everything except the ANT+ feature you can currently do it with any modern Apple Watch. Now specially with the new low power mode.

Yes you can, I’ve been doing this since my Series 6. You only need two apps, Koomot for planning the route and WorkOutDoor for following it and registering the workout. Easy.
WorkOutDoors is great. Are you using Koomot to create a GPX file and then uploading it to WOD as a route?

My first thought was "lap counter/timer" because I'm a runner. I can only imagine the number of uses this button is going to have and I just wish it were on the LESS expensive models ;)

Yes, exactly this.
Thanks! I replied when I saw your first post and didn't see until later that you'd already answered someone else (and it showed up just above my post, embarrassing). I've used various programs on my Mac with the ability to create/edit a GPX file but had not heard of Koomot. WorkOutDoors has been exceptional for me and while I am pleased to see Apple putting more and more functionality in their own apps, I'm not inclined to give up WOD. :)

Careful...the "real" targeted audience will come down on you like a sack of bricks... ;)

And I completely agree. It's still a fashion watch, although a particularly cool one at that.

wont replace a Garmin yet but I'll be testing how close it gets when coupled with Workoutdoors app.

I really like the raw-ish titanium look of the Watch Ultra, as titanium is one of my favorite metals, and the screen looks amazing, but my favorite thing are the new Watch bands. All this being said, I moved away from the Watch (my series 5 got passed to my mother-in-law) earlier this summer for two main reasons.

One is battery life - I just didn’t want to have to deal with charging nightly, or each morning (or both times) as I was trying to wear the Watch 24/7 for health and sleep tracking.

The other issue was the rectangular shape. Prior to getting the Watch, I had worn my Seiko automatic 24/7 for 15+ years, and loved it’s traditional shape and rugged, heavy stainless steel case and band and scratch-free sapphire lens, so I really wanted to get back to a round form factor.

I ended up with a Garmin Epix 2 and don’t see changing back to Apple Watches any time soon. The 16 day battery life is awesome - it’s such a game changer to not worry that when the watch has just 10% battery life remaining, knowing you have 2 days before needing to charge. I can’t make calls or send texts on it, which is probably the only thing I miss from the Watch, but it’s not enough to get me to switch back.
This is the way I'm headed. The lack of HRM communication with my Garmin devices through ANT+ (or even Bluetooth), the absolute dire battery life.

Overall, it's a very nice package, but it misses the mark to make it that amazing piece of gear.

I have a couple of months warranty left on my Apple Watch 6, but I plan to retire it once I've chosen a Garmin replacement. The lure of 16-21 day battery life is huge. (No need to take chargers when travelling or thinking about charging my watch daily), I get the same HRM monitoring, sleep monitoring, and Blood oxygen monitoring, but I also get respiration, stress, VO2 evaluation through my activities, notifications (if I want them), the ability to use the device as an HRM, easy BT connectivity, ANT+ connectivity and no need to download expensive apps to make things work that should already work.

The only thing missing is cellular, but then I carry my phone with me nearly all the time and when I run or cycle, the last thing I want is a phone call! It's barely used and it won't be missed.

Had the Ultra included a real battery life, ANT+ and genuine BT connectivity, it would have been a game-changer. Sadly, it's not.

I think the shortcut for the siren should be holding down the side button and action button simultaneously. Hope I don’t ring the siren by accident!

In the spirit of having 20% of posts being positive on Apple. I think it’s awesome and those who don’t like it… well, most people couldn’t care less that you don’t like it.

We shall see what people who actually have one, think of it.
I find that generally on forums, the I hate it post are just code for I can't afford it, so I'll just bash it.

I hadn't seen WorkOutDoors before - it looks like exactly what I've been searching for to use hiking maps on my watch without having to bring my phone along. Thanks for the recommendation!

Gotcha, I figured it works like this. Already set it up and heading out for a trail run now. 👍 I'm psyched that it can also show an elevation graph during the run, but I can't seem to find remaining elevation as a metric (which it should be able to gather from the loaded route – that information would help to manage energy during mountain runs).

My most used app other than the fitness app would be the calculator lol

Is this offline maps?

Does everyone know that apple was misleading that this watch can do an Ironman only in low power mode. That’s not very useful when you’re on your bike looking for your speed, power, and heart rate data.

Not to mention on the marathon not having that data always ( heart rate and pace and splits) on.
