That loud siren on the Ultra needs to deployed to all Apple watches. It could alert anyone close enough to hear that someone needs help. If you have been injured or someone is assaulting you, this siren could be helpful. Children could alert adults that they are being harmed.

Seems like a couple features were arbitrarily limited to the Ultra model. There's no reason they couldn't have included Bluetooth 5.3 or more precise GPS on the Series 8. Instead of innovating, Apple seems to be knee capping other models to make the top of the line look better.

Of course all companies differentiate their flagship products from their cheaper offerings in order to maximise their profits lol. More expensive cars tend to have more & better "features" too. Companies ain't gonna give you something for free. You shouldn't expect any different under capitalism. And if you do, you should go touch some grass.

You’re acting like the Series 8 is only the aluminum model. The stainless steel and Hermes editions are in no way cheap, with the latter being even more expensive than the Ultra.

I agree. Most of the AWU features will be on next years standard watch though.

Not sure if this post is sarcastic, but you add all those things to the standard AW, you’d probably have to bulk up the case to make it all fit and the added cost of a
all that extra stuff… After all is said and done, you’re looking at a design and price similar to the Ultra. Lucky for us, Apple did just release the Ultra.

Anyways, isn’t added features what differentiates a top of the line from a standard?

It’s funny to me how people complain about not getting iPhone Pro features in their non Pro iPhone. Boggles my mind.

Agreed until it comes to size differences of the same model having different features. Battery is one thing because… physics… but otherwise they should be nearly identical.

Given how Apple is pitching the Apple Watch as a safety device, I’m sure they will add something like that in future updates. However I’m sure part of the reason the Ultra can get so loud is because it has physically larger speaker drivers.

Also they’ll need to figure out how to make it easy to engage in an emergency but not so easy that kids can use it for fun if the feature is brought to models with a wider demographic.

I don’t believe the Ultra is necessarily the top of the line. It’s just a different product, marketed towards a different demographic. Someone interested in buying an Hermes Apple Watch isn’t looking at the Ultra. It’s meant for those who require a more rugged device.

A Bluetooth 5.3 antenna doesn’t take up anymore space than a Bluetooth 5.0 antenna. I doubt the additional satellite band receiver does either.

The brighter display, siren, bigger battery? Ya, there’s no way to fit those in the current Apple Watch case.

I would imagine the siren being misused if deployed across the board. I know a lot of kids with an AW. The price point of the ultra segregates to more ‘sensible’ users.
If people get used to the sirens going off it diminishes the usefulness eg. ‘crying wolf’

Exactly. How many us turn around when a car alarm goes off to see if there’s a robber, or to see if someone is having an emergency and needs help? Probably not very many.

Only out in the quiet wilderness will we think “That siren shouldn’t be here, I better check it out.” Plus, I don’t think the siren will travel very far in a noisy city environment considering it’s coming from a tiny speaker.

If you’re injured in the city, you’ll likely have cell reception and can just call someone, unlike out in the wilderness. If you’re being robbed or mugged, yelling would be better. It sounds more dire/emergent than a siren that nobody will know what it means. Or depending on the situation it might even be better to discreetly slide the ‘Emergency SOS’ button so you don’t attract attention and be further harmed.

I wouldn’t call the Ultra top of the line either. It’s in a class of its own now IMO. That said, I’d say SS is top of the line for the case and glass materials. Hermes prices are really just for the bands and they added some exclusive faces (software) just to set it apart.

I’m sure we’ll see a tear down video of the Ultra soon to see what could’ve or couldn’t but it’s clear Apple had to set the Ultra apart from all others.

Regardless, they still have to have a distinguishing difference in feature set so as not to cannibalize sales and sweeten the deal for an otherwise casual user.

I’m no runner, diver, hiker, mountain climber etc, but I wanted a lot of the Ultra’s features (brighter, screen, longer battery, the action button, titanium case etc…) and they got me. I was reeled in by the extra features.

The kicker for me was that a standard Apple Watch can be “dressed up” in the sense that it can blend in because it’s simple. Casual dinners fine but anything classy and it would feel out of place. Don’t get me wrong, you can wear whatever you want regardless of what people think, but to me it would stick out like a sore thumb (I don’t have luxury watches for nice occasions). Day to day I have no problems with the design, though!! But yeah, I, too, wanted the batter and additional features.

I think that if you slap a matching titanium strap or a nice leather strap on the Ultra, you can make it work for any occasion. Yeah, it’s a little bigger than the other models but not quite as big as a lot of the premium mechanical watches out there. I think it will be stunning in person with the proper accessory. Other than the not so noticeable orange markings and crown guard, it’s still a premium metal Watch. My opinion of course. I think the stock Ultra bands are throwing it off from its potential.
