At home: Mac Mini M1
At work: MacBook Pro 16” 2019

When at home I use my AWU for unlocking my Mac Mini. Since I use the same Apple ID on both Mac devices, can I use the AWU to unlock the work MacBook, too?

Yes, absolutely. It will work normally in both places. Watch unlock measures proximity, so only the machine you are using will unlock.

Rather odd, but, my Apple Watch unlocks my Mac Mini M1 at home, no problem.
However, my MBP, the Apple Watch option to unlock, is not even there. And, I am logged into my Apple ID on both units.

Both units are running the latest version of macOS, Ventura...

The watch and the Mac must both be on the same wifi network.

Hmm, and that is the case when am in the office or home.

But, you know what, I think at work I have a LAN connected to my MBP, too. I wonder if that’s causing an issue.

So, my iPhone connects to a locked WIFI at work. My MBP is connected to it, too, but also has a LAN. Interesting…

My MBP is connected to both also, with ethernet having priority, and my AW works to unlock.

Hmm, well, something else is clearly causing my issue. Additionally, from time to time, like now, on the MBP the option/setting to turn on Apple Watch Unlock is MISSING. Yes, you’re reading that correctly.

If I then take my MBP home, and restart it (reboot) the option to turn on Apple Watch Unlock shows up.

Weird…

Progress. At home, I use a Caldigit USB C dock (not Pro). All this time, I thought my MBP was connecting to the LAN. However, the LAN on that dock is not working. Weird.

Regardless, I now have the option to activate the Apple Watch unlock (after restarting the MBP). I bet when I get to the office, the option disappears.

Now to look into another dock. Fixes found online, are not working. Ugh...!
