I saw a few fitbit blazes while on vacation at DisneyWorld, compared to a lot of apple watch wearers, though the shear majority of of people seemed to be wearing a traditional fitbit,

I think if you're hooked up in the whole fitbit environment, the blaze may be a nice change. Like the Fitbit Surge and Blaze are similar in that they offer some smart watch abilities but its more geared towards fitness, where as the AW is a smart watch with some fitness features.

I like the customization ability of the AW, though Apple could do more regarding the watch faces. The AW has the ability to run apps, though so far this seemed to have limited appeal, but I do like who you can customize the watch with a wide variety of watch bands, something that isn't really as possible with the Blaze.

True. Fitbit's pricing fits with most people. I just don't think most people are willing to spend much on a watch. Most my coworkers and friends opt for cheap items. Price point seems to be what keeps the smartwatch from going mainstream right now, at least until more uses come up.

Fitbit devices are just not consistent enough at heart rate. If they would allow an external HRM to be used and synced into the app, it would be a massive improvement. I don't see them doing it though, as they want to force people to use their products for everything. That's fine, but they have to work!

In reviews and my second-hand observed experience (me running beside someone with a Charge HR) the Charge HR beats the AW HRM. Ditto the Surge. I think the Blaze HRM problems may be an outlier for FB.
AFAIK, only a chest strap will provide accurate readings. I'm not worked up over the heart rate, either on the fitbit or the AW
Garmin wrist optical devices work very well. As does the optical Rhythm+. The problems are individual implementation and the quality of the sensors used in the devices. Apple was a rookie, and it shows. Hopefully they learned, and will improve the AW2.
