Just saw a clip on YouTube that shows that with the latest version of OS4 you can leave your Iphone at home or in your car and your watch will automatically connect to an open wifi or hotspot and will show you the strength of the connection. Anybody aware of this running the beta versions and if so please give us your experience with this and if true it will come close to having 4G on your watch to make and receive calls as well as text without your iphone in sight.

That is true but you have to do several task for it to remember the wifi and I believe in OS4 it will automatically connect without your phone present.

My watch currently remembers the WiFis that my iPhone has connected in watchOS 3. The problem is the limited functionality without iPhone. iMessage some apps notification (always with the iPhone connected to another network) and almost nothing else....

My hope is that watchOS 4 brings more autonomy in that approach. I don’t understand why it cannot send and receive mails if my watch is connected to a WiFi and I don’t have my iPhone.....
