I didn't think or say that, you did. I'm aware of and using heavily native Watch features (activity, heartbeat/dB monitoring, etc). But this article is about integration, and smart assistant functionality is a big checkmark for that kind of seamlessness to work. As it is with Siri, it doesn't.

The rings and life saving interventions are valid but not relevant in this context.

I ... hear you, but the problems I've described have been ongoing since day 1. In fact, that still happened again today when I tried to call my dad. It also keeps picking up random phrases when I'm having a conversation.

I don't need to benchmark with other smart assistants to tell with conviction that Siri is a dumpster fire.

The root issue is Siri (and the others) need to phone home to work. I'm hoping Apple breaks the need for the connection. Or at least have proxy systems if the given device is not powerful enough (like the watch). Using a home server so most of my requests stay within my control. Or, my MacBook Pro, iPad or even iPhone.

but you still need to pair it to an iPhone first, right? its Not like the Apple Watch it’s an standalone product.

Yes, you do need to set it up your Apple Watch on an iPhone. But, once done you don't need the iPhone be near or even turned on for the cellular watch to work. Thats very different with the non-cellular versions of the watch which is tethered to the iPhone.

As someone that wears hearing aids I would say they Apple Watch doesn't integrate with the phone well at all.

Calls - I can't place or answer them on the watch because the sound is not in my hearing aids. There is no way that I can hear the other person well enough.

Music - I can't start anything on Apple Music or Podcasts because it needs to connect to Bluetooth headphones/earbuds. So I have to pull the phone out of my pocket and start song or podcast and then I can kind of control it on my watch.

Point is the accessibilty is great on the iPhone but is severely lacking on the watch.

Can you actually use the Apple Watch without an iPhone? :p

Yes you can. Especially if your Apple Watch has cellular connectivity. I do all of my hikes, using my Watch with cellular, without my iPhone. This is just one example.

This, to me, makes the AW with cellular seem kind of pointless. I always bring my phone when I wear my watch anyway.

Pointless to you perhaps but not to those of us who run, hike or road cycle with an AW with cellular which makes bringing the iPhone with us unnecessary.

I use an AWS5 and an iPhone and use Siri many times throughout the day. There are times when it just refuses to perform what is asked even if it’s something you ask for daily I often find. I do feel Apple have slipped behind on voice recognition in recent years and even affordable Amazon voice assistants seem to have a better success rate in my experience. I think a lot of it is to do with background noise and iPhones and AW’s seem to struggle in that regard.
