Ugh.... does this means apple will now start abusing their platforms to sell their users unsolicited crap?

The major reason you seen many of these options is because Apple Music, and coming TV / Magazine Subscription are also bound by those App Store rules. So in order for Apple to allow any promotional pricing to their services, they will have to allow those to other Subscription Services.

I don't like these kind of deals from Apple. As well as the Trade in discount and Advert from XR. It is turning Apple into a Super Market like places, cheapen the brand. Apple is / was always been about offering Quality AND Value, Not pricing.

...Until that population woke up and left the subscription model.

I'm sure some fall into that category. I'm sure some are more "oops, I didn't realize what I was signing up for".

And I bet some are people who are willing to pay subscriptions and have decided to drop one. I can't believe a company the size of Apple hasn't done a little bit of up-front research on this. Since they get a cut, they would have the numbers on how successful and profitable subscriptions are. If they didn't believe this would make them money, it's a lot less likely they would bother to target such a tiny segment of their user base.

That's just my opinion of course. I'm no accountant or economist or whoever would do that type of research.

This is proof Apple's app store monetization strategy was ill conceived from the beginning and has now failed. The complexity required to implement an app's purchases increases app development costs.

All this could have been solved with paid apps and paid upgrades, but Apple was too arrogant and ignorant. Too late, it's game over for mobile apps.

Oh, what depths has the mighty Apple fallen! They are are now offering a trade in discount (news flash-they've have a trade in program for years) on the XR, and what's worse, they are actually advertising the discount when the old Apple would have keep it a secret.

Aside from the whole "rental" thing we can argue about, the REAL bottom line is they OWN YOUR ASS. They watch and record EVERY move you make... why do you think you MUST go through their store to buy this stuff? They take a big chunk out of the developer's business AND they keep track of every damn move you make.
